Looking For an Affordable Long Term RV Rental (Or Monthly RV Rental?)

Are you looking for an affordable long term or monthly RV rental?

Spending a month or more traveling the USA in an RV is a fabulous way to see the incredible sites around the country. You can affordably travel at your own pace and enjoy nature. Traveling in RVs has become a very popular trend among vacationers of all ages and backgrounds.

Long-term RV rentals are a great way to travel for an extended period to see the country while saving money.

If you want an affordable month-long RV rental, seasonal RV rental, or yearly RV rental, then you are in the right place.

Why Choose a Long Term or Monthly RV Rental?

There are plenty of reasons why RVs are more convenient and affordable than staying in hotels or tent camping on an extended vacation. An RV has many advantages, such as:

  • Enough sleeping room for several people
  • Passengers have room to do work or enjoy leisure
  • A place to store and prepare your own food
  • No need to stop for bathroom breaks
  • Privacy

In addition to traveling on your own schedule and at your own pace, monthly RV rentals are more affordable than staying in a hotel, especially if you’re traveling long term.

Even a very moderately priced motel room costs $100 or more, and depending on the location, it can cost quite a bit more. And if you are traveling with other family or friends, the cost can run into the hundreds of dollars per night! The average family can not pay several hundred dollars per night on hotel rooms on a vacation of a month or longer.

Is It More Economical to Rent or Own an RV?

A long term or monthly RV rental can save you money while you enjoy all of the benefits of RVing. Every time I stop by an RV dealership to buy parts or maintenance items, the cashier laughs and says, “no one ever said owning an RV would be cheap!”

In addition to that, here are the reasons you should rent vs. own your RV:

You don’t have to make a significant investment to stay in an RV.

You won’t experience depreciation rates of 20% a year for the first 3-4 years.

There are many maintenance costs associated with owning an RV, but none with renting.

You don’t have to pay for a place to store your RV when you aren’t using it.

You don’t have to pay personal property tax.

Even if you do intend to purchase, you can try different types and classes of RVs to decide what you like best!

You can rent before you buy to see if the  RV lifestyle is right for you.

How to Find Long Term or Monthly RV Rentals

The best way to find campers for rent monthly is through something known as peer-to-peer renting, like through Outdoorsy, RVshare, RVezy, or RVnGo. We suggest you check all of these sites to find your best deal.

Peer-to-peer renting allows you to rent personal RVs that aren’t being used by their owners. You can browse for RVs right in your area or in the destination of your choice to find the perfect RV style, travel dates, and rental rates.

When browsing for a monthly RV rental, you can look at the interior and exterior pictures, view the available features and amenities, read customer reviews and get to know a little about each owner before reaching out to ask questions.

The RV size, dimensions, age, MPG, fuel type, slide outs, and the number of people it sleeps are all provided in the description. Owners also list the features in their RVs, including:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Televisions
  • Bedding
  • Kitchen Utensils
  • Bike Racks
  • Microwave
  • Pet-Friendly

Where to Find Monthly RV Rentals

The best place we’ve found for long-term RV rentals are peer-to-peer rental platforms such as Outdoorsy, RVshare, RVezy, or RVnGo. Each of these sites offer RV rentals from RVers who aren’t using their RV. These sites are like Airbnb for RVs, where you rent from trusted RV owners.

Searching for monthly or long term RV rentals on Outdoorsy is simple. Just visit their website, enter the city, or state you plan on visiting and enter the dates.

You can also filter your search by RV type, the number of people it sleeps, and price. More filters include features, amenities, customer reviews if the RV is pet-friendly and even specific keywords, such as long term or monthly rental.

Once you find some good potential rentals, reach out to the RV owners to see if you can get a reduced rate for a long term rental. Sometimes you can get them to lower their prices or fees for a long-term rental. The price in their listing is just a starting point. We will cover some other tips to help you save money on monthly rv rentals below!

I also recommend that you read the customer reviews before you rent. The customer reviews give you some great insight into the RV owner and how easy or difficult they are to work with. They will also tell you about the condition of the RV and other features that are included but not mentioned in the description.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent an RV For a Month?

The monthly RV rental cost is a fraction of what you would pay for hotel rooms in the same period. In fact, many monthly camper rentals cost as low as $100 per night.

Even luxury monthly RV rentals rarely rent for more than $170 to $200 per night. This can save you a lot of money if you consider that hotel rooms are very restrictive about how many people can sleep in one room. A family could need to pay for two or three hotel rooms each night.

And remember, you can also negotiate with RV owners since they are competing with each other for your business. RV owners want long-term renters because it saves time and effort. They only have to rent an RV once with a monthly rental instead of four times with weekly renters.

Average Monthly RV Rental Prices

Many factors affect the monthly (or long term) rental price of an RV. Some of these include peak season or off-season, competition, owners’ desire for convenience, negotiating skills, and others. But here are some estimates that you can expect for average monthly RV rental prices.

Type of RVMonthly RV Rental Cost per Day
Class A$150 to $250 per night
Class B$100 to $200 per night
Class C$125 to $200 per night
5th Wheel$60 to $150 per night
Travel Trailer$50 to $125 per night
Truck Camper$40 to $100 per night

We think Outdoorsy is the best place for a monthly RV rental because we compared them to the other top rental companies. We found that they have the best RV selection, best insurance, best customer service, and best reviews.

And we prefer peer-to-peer rentals over renting from the big national rental companies because you have a much wider selection of RV styles and types, there are more included features, and you can negotiate the price and terms.
