Picking out the best RV name is almost like a right of passage. Sure, the tradition sparked from boats, where naming your seafaring machine is mandatory. Still, it’s a practice that brings meaning to your home away from home. By picking a camper name for your RV or travel trailer, your road trip partner becomes yours through and through.
We have two RVs, so we had to come up with two names. Then we decided to name our Jeep that we tow behind us too.
We ended up naming our Class C RV Chessie since we are from Maryland and we live near the Chesapeake Bay.
We are also huge fans of the TV Show Get Smart, which stars Don Adams. We even had Don Adams’s daughter Chris, who is a certified wedding officiant here in Maryland, perform our wedding in 2022!
Don Adams, aka Agent 99, drove two different cars in the hit series. One was a light blue Karmen Ghia, and the other was a bright red convertible, which was a Sunbeam Tiger. So we named our Class A RV the Karen Ghia and our bright red Jeep Wrangle the Sunbeam Tiger.

There are endless name options out there, but we know that coming up with a creative name is easier said than done. So, we’ve curated our list of more than 250 perfect RV or travel trailer names. Should you stumble upon the perfect one for your vehicle, it’s all yours.
Why Do People Give Their RV Names?
People give their RV names because it establishes a relationship between the driver and the vehicle. There’s no real difference when it comes to naming RVs. It’s a personal thing. We spend an extensive amount of time in our vehicles, whether driving to and from work, hauling a travel trailer across the country, or driving a motorhome.
While naming vehicles is the product of naming boats for centuries, it’s not necessarily the same. The naming of boats was entirely logistical, at least in the beginning. It made it easier to quickly identify and communicate about the various vessels on the water. Over time, that grew into a rite of passage. The same is true of vehicles and RVs.
Is It Bad Luck To Change RV Names?
It’s not bad luck to change a vehicle’s name, at least not in the same way that such superstitions developed over boats. While seafaring vessels have always carried the aura of the mysterious and a degree of superstition, the same is not true of cars, trucks, SUVs, and campers.
The sea is still a great mystery, with only 5% of the Earth’s oceans and major bodies of water having been explored. There’s nothing mysterious about I-95 or the Walmart parking lot. The same superstitious aura that lingers over all sea-going vessels is conspicuously absent on American roads.
While naming your RV is a lot of fun, especially if you come up with a good one, renaming it isn’t going to bring a plague or a curse upon your family line.
Choose an RV Name Route
First things first. When you name an RV, you need to decide which path to take. We suppose it’s not much different than picking a route for your roadway journey.
Should the name be funny to reflect your laid-back sense of humor? It might be wise to poke fun at your massive (in more ways than one) investment. Should it take on a sense of outdoor enthusiasm? After all, that’s why you got the travel trailer in the first place.
Should you go for a more traditional name? This’ll be the one you can share with no shame, regardless of where you venture. What about reflecting your love for music and pop culture? With a name like this, you may have an easier time finding like-minded travelers on the open road.
Whatever path you take in the camper naming journey will be a fun one. We’ve come up with a set of names for every type of RV owner. It’s no secret the camper population is a diverse one, so it only makes sense we’d cover all our bases.
Humorous RV Names
People tend to name their RVs, fifth wheels, and other mobile campers with humor in mind. This includes puns and jokes alike. When we hear names like this, it always gives us a little chuckle. Our 2021 Fleetwood Bounder 35K with the Pacific exterior graphics is known formally as “Motor Vessel Bonnie Blue Bounder” or MV Bonnie Blue for short. Yes, that is nautical terminonlogy there.
I know Chessie is the name of your Class C and you’ve had your Thor a little over a year. Does it have a name yet?
We named ours ” Goldilox” . . . our last name is Oxenfeld and she is “just right”!

After reading your suggestions, we’re leaning toward “Cummins and Goins’ ” We drive a Ram with a Cummins engine
We have a Little Guy Mini Max that we have made as cozy and homey inside as possible with wall stickers, paintings of birds (by my husband) and a wall covering on the back wall that duplicates the blonde wood cabinets arount the trailer. Lots of pillows and quilts and a teak table replaces the metal one it came with. We call our retreat “Hygge Hus”. Danish word and lifestyle “hygge” means “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).”

My Vans name is Harley because I wish it was a Harley.
When we got our Foretravel and my husband mentioned that we should name her (which I didn’t even know was a thing) it didn’t take me very long to come up with the name we decided on. My husband is from Mississippi and I’m from Louisiana so the obvious no brainer is Miss Lou.
My wife’s family had an old pop-up camper with a bumper sticker on it that said “Archie Bunker for President”. When My wife and I bought out new Travel trailer we named it Archie 2.0 with a picture of Archie Bunker. I had a custom magnetic bumper made.
Gone with the Dogs — since all six will be traveling in the truck with us and the trailer was purchased for all 8 of us!

Our new (to us!) Allegro Bay is Sandy Beaches or Sandy B for short. We are beach lovers and Sandy B is painted blue and tan. We are currently remodeling the inside with a beach theme!

We are big Tom Petty Fans. This is our first travel trailer, and we are learning so much so we named it “Learning to Fly”. In the song Tom sings “Started out from God knows where, I guess I’ll know when I get there”. As we head into the retirement years we will be “Learning to Fly”!

My A frame is named Pandora, originally after the high school librarian that had a huge positive influence on me but evolving to include the “opening of the box” theme so similar to opening an A frame. I am now converting a navy blue (tiny) Ford Transit and was struggling to find the right name. After reading your list, it will definitely be The T.A.R.D.I.S.! Thank you!

My wife is a Doctor Who fan, so we went with the Doctor’s traveling companion, Sarah Jane.
We just bought our first camper for off season camping -ironically we are too busy during the summer to camp. So I’m thinking about naming ours ‘Shitters Full’ from Christmas Vacation. It’s a family favorite and tradition to watch that movie over and over on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We love that movie.
Bears’ Den has also come up. The nickname my husband has given me is Bear. This all came about years ago when I wasn’t always so happy and eager to see the sun come up. My personality matched that of a grizzly 😂 It stuck.
So we will be naming our camper. Just not sure yet which way this is going. It’ll be fun either way.

I just bought my first travel trailer. I had been camping before but things always seemed to go wrong. I had a cat that was named Kaboom. What a way to remember her and warn others getting close to beware.

Our A-frame tent camper is named Ellie. She is a character from the movie UP whose tagline is “The adventure is out there”. She is adventurous and ready to take on life with gusto. Such a great outlook for OUR camping adventures.

I purchased a 22ft 1991 Kit that was in need of some serious TLC. Not quite done, but I have dubbed her “The Bonnie Lass”, in honor of all she’s undergone….and how beautiful she’ll be.
