A motorcycle road trip is a beautiful way to travel and see the country. But rather than put a motorcycle on a trailer and haul it behind your RV, some folks prefer to drive the motorcycle and haul campers for motorcycles trailer behind it.

That’s precisely where popup campers for motorcycles come into play. There are plenty of lightweight pop-up campers and teardrop campers for motorcycles on the market, but which are the best?

Well, read on to see our list of the best popup campers for motorcycles!

What Are Popup Campers for Motorcycles?

People who want to experience the open road on a motorcycle and camp along the way will love the popup or bunkhouse motorcycle camper. And quite frankly, I’m surprised I don’t see more of these on the road. Anyone with a larger motorcycle can tow these campers, which can comfortably sleep up to two people.

A motorcycle camper or bunkhouse camper is a pop-up camper. When folded down, it looks like a motorcycle cargo trailer. When you arrive at your campsite, you set it up just like you would a pop-up tent. You can also carry extra camping gear inside the pop-up while you are hauling it, which makes it very convenient.

The 6 Best Campers for Motorcycles

Campers for Motorcycles have come a long way, and each year, more options seem to be available. For 2024, these are six of the best campers for motorcycles.

Each offers a soft place to sleep and some additional storage space. Each is designed to be towed by a motorcycle, so they have safety in mind in their design and engineering.

❌ Only a double bed, not much storage space

  • Length: 66”
  • UVW: 330 lbs
  • GVWR: 825 lbs
  • CCC: 495 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 33 lbs

This camper takes less than five minutes for one person to set up. The key to this speed is that the tent is fully assembled in the box and attaches to the frame and lid. The disadvantage to this camper is that you do not have a ton of added storage space.

This tent is also made from extra heavy-duty fabric and has nice side flaps that prevent rain between the tent and the frame.

How Much Do Campers for Motorcycles Weigh?

Camping trailers for motorcycles weigh in at around 250-400 pounds. They vary based on size and amenities. The smallest, most basic pop-ups are going to weigh the least.

They’ll offer you a space to rest your head and a spot to hold your gear. But what if you want add-ons like headspace, a sink, maybe even extra storage? With these, you’ll be pushing the maximum of about 400 pounds.

How Much Weight Can My Motorcycle Tow?

The typical road trip motorcycle can tow a decent amount. On average, these bikes are capable of hauling 350-450 pounds. There’s an easy trick to finding out for sure.

Determine the maximum full-loaded operating weight as specified by your bike’s manufacturer. Subtract the net weight of your motorcycle as it will be ridden. The resulting number is your motorcycle’s safe tow weight.

Final Words About Popup Campers for Motorcycles

In conclusion, motorcycle campers are ideal for enjoying an outdoor camping experience while on the road. They are lightweight, towable, compact, and inexpensive. They are a great way to camp and enjoy the freedom of the outdoors.  Since they are small, maintenance and cleaning are minimal while you are enjoying your camping lifestyle.

With a tent camper in tow and your bike in gear, you’ll have everything you need in life.

  7. I have an 87 Timeout that has stood the test of time! Still original tent cover. Takes about twice as long to set up as a new one, but still not more than 15 minutes. Now that I no longer ride my Goldwing, I pull it with my Tacoma 4×4 and carry my Honda Ruckus scooter on a front carrier. Loads of fun to take this rig out camping! And can readily go across country with it too!

    • Hi Carolyn,
This might sound weird but boat canvas cover companies and awning companies are probably your best bet.
Be sure to get several quotes but they can custom fit to your camper.
Let me know how you make out.
      Thanks,
      Mike

    • Hi Shiela,
I would try calling the manufacturer of the popup camper to see if they can make you a cover. If that doesn’t work I would try a boat cover company or an awning company and see if they can customize one to your specifications.
