Saguaro National Park is home to Arizona’s largest cactus plant, the saguaro, and offers camping, hiking, and backpacking trails for every level. The Giant Saguaro cactus has long been the universal symbol of the American West. But, these plants are only found in this small part of the United States. Located near Tucson, Saguaro National Park contains the most extensive forest of Saguaro Cactus, which by the way can live for 200 years and grow to an impressive height of 50 feet tall.
5. Visit Sedona
Sedona is surrounded by stunning red rock mountains and buttes and has one of the most beautiful settings in all of Arizona. It’s about one and a half hours north of Phoenix, and it’s a popular day trip from the city, but Sedona is worth visiting for more than just a couple of hours. The drive into Sedona from the south, through the Village of Oak Creek, is gorgeous and offers many scenic pullouts for photographing the landscape.
6. Monument Valley
One of the most well recognized images of the Desert Southwest is the sandstone buttes that predominate Monument Valley. This area straddles the border between Arizona and Utah and includes rugged rock formations, rocky spires and buttes, and sand dunes.

In southern Arizona, near the Mexico border, is one of Arizona’s best kept secrets. Bisbee is a former mining town that has become a unique little community located high in the mountains. After the mines in Bisbee closed, it became a ghost town, and eventually, squatters moved in.
However, over the years, the town became a refuge for artists and hipsters. Today, Bisbee is a prosperous small town with an eclectic mix of residents, unique shops and restaurants, and many exciting things to see and do.
Many of the homes there used to belong to former miners. The homes surround the historic downtown area. Many of these old homes are only accessible by long sets of stairs that connect to the town below. Views from the streets and hillside homes above the town are incredible, looking out over mountains all the way to Mexico. Usery Mountain County Park Campground has been a park since 1967, and it is one of the best places to stay near Phoenix. The park is open to people of all ages, and visitors can stay as long as they like. However, you must let the owners know how long you plan on staying before you arrive.
While you are staying at Usery Mountain County Park Campground you will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities. The people that manage the park take pride in always keeping their guests entertained. So, there are several activities that rotate in and out throughout the year. These activities include archery, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, stargazing, and hiking. Notably, if you are a fan of hiking you will love it here. There are several trails that converge upon the campground, allowing campers to explore the park in its entirety.
2. Pioneer RV Resort
Pioneer RV Resort is more than just a place where you park your RV while you explore the area. It is a place where you can get a sense of community. This is a 55+ community that is warm and inviting to all that come to visit. The park is located just north of Phoenix off Interstate 17.
Pets are allowed at the park, but they need to be well behaved. Additionally, all pets need to stay in an enclosed supervised area or remain on a leash at all times. Pets cannot be left unattended, and you need to make sure that you clean up after them. Pets also need to have all shots required by Arizona statutes. You should also note that the park is located in a rural area with lots of coyotes. These coyotes know how to hunt pets, so if you are thinking about letting your pet off the leash that could be a fatal decision.

Every campsite comes with a picnic table and barbecue fire ring.
Furthermore, when you stay at Cave Creek Regional Park you will have access to restrooms that are always kept clean. There are also excellent shower facilities with hot water. You will also be happy to hear that there is a dumps station that is available for all registered campers to use for no additional cost.
Cave Creek Regional Park Campground takes environmentalism seriously. All guests are expected to take care of their waste and make sure that they do not leave anything behind. Guests should respect the trails when they are hiking in the area, and make sure they do not leave any trash on the ground.
4. Desert Shadows RV Resort
If you are interested in staying at one of the most beautiful parks in the state of Arizona, Desert Shadows RV Resort is a great option for you. This RV resort has 638 campsites available to guests that offer whatever you need. There are pull thru sites up to 75 feet in length. They come with a concrete patio, and 50 or 30 amp electric, sewer, and water hookups.
Whether you want to stay for a short time or a long time, you will have a place to stay at Desert Shadows RV Resort. The resort itself is peaceful and friendly, but it is also located close to Phoenix, allowing guests to visit the metropolitan center whenever they want. You will also be tended to by their friendly staff and social director whenever you need something.
While you are staying here you will have access to a wide variety of amenities. These amenities include clean restrooms and showers, a huge laundry facility, an 18,000 square feet clubhouse, and pool buildings. Semi-developed sites and tent sites have a covered Ramada, a picnic table, a barbecue grill, and a fire ring. Restroom and shower facilities are available to guests at every campsite.
When you are staying at Lake Pleasant Regional Park Campground you will have the choice between shoreline camping and boat-in camping. Depending on water levels, shoreline camping is permitted in designated areas, but reservations are required. The day of availability is on a first come, first served basis. Reservations can only be made during business hours.
Alternatively, you can enjoy boat in camping at one of 30 parking spaces. Each campsite is roughly 45 feet long and 12 feet wide, which should accommodate most boat trailers and towing vehicles. Reservations are required for these sites and like with the shoreline camping sites, the day of availability is on a first come, first served basis.
6. Estrella Mountain Regional Park Campground
If you prefer to have a more private experience on your camping trip, Estrella Mountain Regional Park Campground. The campground only has seven RV campsites, but each of them can accommodate a 45 foot long RV. Additionally, each site comes with water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a barbecue fire ring.
Estrella Mountain Regional Park Campground is one of the newer ones in the Phoenix area, and as a result, it is not completed. It is fully functional and guests that stay there will have a good time, but there are plans to expand it. So, if you want to visit while it is still small, you will want to do so in the next two years. That is because by 2022 there is a plan to develop a primitive camping area that will allow many more guests to stay at the park at a time.
Furthermore, while you are staying here you will be able to enjoy a variety of amenities and activities. These activities include biking, fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, stargazing, picnicking, and baseball.
