RV LIFE Pro Review: RV Trip Wizard, GPS & 25% Discount

Susan and I have used RV Trip Wizard for years, and it is still the trip-planning tool I use before most of our longer RV trips.

I usually build the trip on my computer, research campgrounds along the route, and then let the trip sync to the RV LIFE app on my phone so I can use RV Safe GPS while we are driving.

That combination is the reason I still pay for RV LIFE Pro.

I do not use every tool included with RV LIFE Pro, so this is not going to be one of those reviews where I pretend every feature is amazing. The three things that matter most to me are RV Trip Wizard, Campground Reviews, and RV Safe GPS.

What Is RV LIFE Pro?

RV LIFE Pro is one subscription that unlocks several RV travel tools.

• RV LIFE mobile app with RV Safe GPS
• RV LIFE Campgrounds
• RV LIFE Maintenance
• RV LIFE Masterclass

The annual subscription is currently $65 per year and includes a 7-day trial. There is also a monthly option, but for the way we travel, the annual plan makes much more sense.

How We Actually Use RV Trip Wizard

I still prefer planning our trips on a computer.

RV LIFE has added more trip-planning capability to the mobile app, which is nice, but when I am laying out a multi-day RV trip I want a bigger screen. I want to see the route, campground choices, driving distances, and stops all at once.

So my normal process looks like this:

1. Build the route in RV Trip Wizard on my computer.
2. Set our RV dimensions and routing preferences.
3. Research campgrounds and overnight stops along the route.
4. Save the trip.
5. Open the RV LIFE app on my phone and use the synced trip with RV Safe GPS while driving.

The syncing is one of my favorite parts. I do not have to rebuild the route on my phone after spending all that time planning it on the computer.

Campground Research Is One of the Best Parts

For me, Trip Wizard is not just about drawing a line from Point A to Point B.

I use the campground research to figure out where we can stop without wasting money.

We belong to several camping memberships, so I am always looking for opportunities to use them along the way. Trip Wizard and RV LIFE Campgrounds make it much easier to research options such as:

• Harvest Hosts
• Boondockers Welcome
• Passport America
• Thousand Trails

That can make a noticeable difference on a long trip.

If I can use a membership we already paid for instead of spending another $60 or $80 for an overnight campground, I want to know that before I book anything.

RV LIFE also lets you filter campground research by things like price, ratings, park type, affiliations, and amenities. Harvest Hosts can be connected directly to Trip Wizard so eligible locations can appear on the map.

Why RV-Safe Routing Matters

This is the part of RV LIFE Pro I care about most once we are actually moving.

Google Maps and Waze are great for cars. But they do not know that I am driving a Class A motorhome with specific height, weight, and routing considerations.

RV Trip Wizard lets you build the route around your RV information and road preferences. Then RV Safe GPS uses that RV-specific route for turn-by-turn navigation on your phone.

That does not mean I blindly follow any GPS.

I still pay attention to road signs, bridge clearances, campground directions, and anything else happening in the real world. No navigation app replaces common sense.

The Trip Automatically Syncs to RV Safe GPS

This is probably the feature that ties the whole system together for me.

Trips created in RV Trip Wizard automatically sync to the RV LIFE mobile app. I can open the trip on my phone, choose the next stop, and start RV-safe navigation without recreating the route.

RV LIFE also supports offline navigation, which can be useful in areas where cell coverage gets sketchy.

My Biggest Complaint About RV Safe GPS

I do have one complaint that has fooled me more than once.

Sometimes the map does not resize or zoom in enough as I approach a turn.

That can make the turn look farther away than it really is. I have missed turns because I thought I still had more distance before the intersection.

Once you know about it, you pay closer attention to the distance countdown and voice prompts instead of judging the turn only by the map.

It is not enough for me to stop using the app, but I absolutely think it is something RV LIFE could improve.

How Useful Are RV LIFE Campground Reviews?

I use Campground Reviews much more than the other extras included with Pro.

When I am considering a campground, I want more than a star rating. I want to know whether the sites are big enough, whether larger RVs can maneuver through the park, what the hookups are like, what other RVers say about the roads and campsites, and whether the campground actually sounds like a place we would enjoy.

RV LIFE Campgrounds includes reviews, park details, amenities, photos, and other RV-specific information. That information is integrated into the planning process, so I do not have to bounce between a bunch of unrelated websites just to decide where to stop.

What Else Comes With RV LIFE Pro?

RV LIFE Pro includes more than the tools I personally use most often.

You also get RV LIFE Maintenance, which can track maintenance schedules, costs, documents, and reminders, plus RV LIFE Masterclass with RV education courses.

I do not currently use those tools much, so I am not going to tell you they are the reason to subscribe.

Maybe I should use them more.

But for me, Trip Wizard, Campground Reviews, and RV Safe GPS already justify the subscription.

Can You Plan Trips on the RV LIFE Mobile App?

Yes.

This is one area where RV LIFE has improved since we first wrote this article.

You can now create and manage trips from the Trips section of the RV LIFE mobile app. Trip information stays synced between devices.

I still prefer the computer because I find the larger screen easier when I am comparing a lot of campgrounds and planning multiple travel days. But if you prefer doing everything from your phone, you have that option now.

How Much Does RV LIFE Pro Cost?

RV LIFE Pro currently costs $65 per year for the annual subscription, which includes a 7-day trial.

There is also a $19.99 monthly option, but the monthly plan does not include the 7-day trial.

Is RV LIFE Pro Worth It?

For the way Susan and I travel, yes.

I would not buy it because it has five tools. I would buy it because the three tools we actually use solve three real problems:

• RV Trip Wizard helps me build the trip.
• Campground Reviews helps me decide where we should stay and where our memberships can save us money.
• RV Safe GPS takes the route I already planned and gives me RV-specific navigation while we drive.

That is the value for me.

If you only take one or two short camping trips a year and already know exactly where you are going, you may not need it.

But if you take longer RV trips, move between unfamiliar campgrounds, travel with a larger RV, or want to use camping memberships strategically along the way, I think RV LIFE Pro is one of the more useful subscriptions you can carry.

My Bottom Line

RV LIFE Pro is not perfect.

I would still like to see the GPS map zoom more aggressively as turns approach, and I do not use every tool included in the subscription.

But I keep using it because it makes our trip-planning process easier.

I plan the trip on my computer. I research campgrounds and membership options. The trip syncs to my phone. Then RV Safe GPS helps me follow the route in our motorhome.

That is a pretty simple workflow, and after using it for years, I have not found a reason to replace it.
