This is a good question for newbie campers! Let’s say you are going on a week-long camping trip. What do you need to pack, and is the rental RV going to come with any items you may need?

Do I Need a Special Driver’s License to Rent an RV in Orlando?

Travel Trailers and Pop-ups are towed behind a truck or SUV and thus do not require any sort of special license or training. Class A motorhome and Class C motorhome options are also available to rent.

Driving the vast majority of motorhomes requires no special license either, and is easier than many newcomers think. You must be at least 25 years of age with a valid driver’s license however to rent most RVs. However, some states require a special license for large motorhomes over a certain GVW (gross vehicle weight).

1. Visit Disney World

2. Magic Kingdom Park

The Magic Kingdom consists of six different themed areas. There are Main Street U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Space Mountain is a roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom’s and you have to try it at least once!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland and the Haunted Mansion at Liberty Square are also awesome experiences in the Magic Kingdom. Expect visits with Disney characters and parades every day in the Magic Kingdom. And then to top the day off there is the Happily Ever After fireworks every night at 9:00.

3. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex gives visitors the chance to see what it’s like to be an astronaut. You can experience a lifelike feeling of life in space through the active displays and Star Wars-like 3D images.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit hangs from the ceiling like it is flying through the space center. And the Shuttle Launch Experience is just like take off in a real space shuttle!

4. Gatorland

Gatorland is a protected land and amusement park that offers daring tourists the chance to wrestle with a real crocodile. Even if you aren’t up for gator wrestling, there’s still plenty to do like the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line, where you fly at 30mph over Gatorland’s crocodiles. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has 1000 or so creatures here for you to see up close while on a Safari ride. There are also great shows featuring some of the animals. The Maharajah Jungle Trek and Kilimanjaro Safaris bring you face-to-face with tigers, komodo dragons, giraffes, lions, and zebras.

There are also many amusement park rides, like the rollercoaster Expedition Everest, which was the most expensive rollercoaster ever constructed when it was built in 2006. Pandora – The World of Avatar has two amazing rides, the Na’vi River Journey Pontoon ride and the Avatar: Flight of Passage.

6. Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is just like Hollywood in its heyday. There are six areas including Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake which is also called Echo Park, Grand Avenue, and Sunset Boulevard. And there is also Toy Story Land and the Animation Courtyard. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a drop down ride based on the acclaimed TV show and may be in one of the tallest structures in the whole Disney World Resort.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is the second most visited water park in the world! There are nine water slides and freshwater rivers with differing speeds, from the lightning-fast Humunga Kowabunga (hitting velocities of very nearly 40 mph) to the more steady Gang Plank Falls, which is a slow float.

1. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

If you are looking for a place you camp in the magic of the great outdoors, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a great option for you. Here you will see deer, rabbits, ducks, and armadillos roaming around the 750 acres of pine and cypress forests. In those forests, you will find several hiking trails for you to walk around and check out the area. There are also several beautiful natural pool areas for you to go for a swim if you like.

Each campsite comes with a parking space for one RV. Smaller vehicles are also available for rent so that you can drive around the trails instead of walking if that is what you prefer. You can also use childcare services if you want a day away from your children.

However, you will not want to keep them away for long because there is direct transportation from the campground to the Settlement. There, you can go to the beach, see dinner shows, and even go to Disney World.

2. Orlando / Kissimmee KOA

KOA is one of the most well-regarded RV campground organizations in the United States. So, it should be no surprise to hear that there is one in Orlando.

Spoiler alert: We will look at a few other KOA campgrounds before we finish. This campground is just a few minutes from the world-famous Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and LEGOLAND. So, if you have kids, you will quickly earn major brownie points for bringing them here.

Fortunately, KOA has several sites available including pull thru, back in, and deluxe patio full hookup sites. The deluxe sites are located near the pool and restrooms.

There is also a playground and jumping pillow on site for kids to enjoy. A fitness room is available to adults, and dogs are welcome. They need to stay on leash in most parts of the campground, but there is a dog park where they can run around freely with the rest of the dogs.

All guests will have access to a variety of amenities. These amenities include 50 max amp full hookups, cable TV, free Wi-Fi all throughout the campground, a pool and hot tub that are open all year round, and a pavilion. Finally, propane and firewood are available for guests to purchase on site.

3. Twelve Oaks RV Resort

Twelve Oaks RV Resort is a great place for RVers to stay, whether they are passing through the area or are looking to spend some time in the greater Orlando area. You can call or email to make a reservation. However, you should note that RVs are required to be from 2005 or newer.

There are different rates for daily, weekly, and monthly stays. Staying longer means that you need to pay less per day. However, at this resort, you pay for electric hookups separately. So, if you use a lot of electricity, you will have a larger bill at the end of your stay. There are no refunds, and late payments will incur a $75 late fee.

When you stay here, you will have access to a variety of amenities. These amenities include showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi. Normally, there is a pool, but it is currently under construction. Finally, you should note that this resort does not provide guests with cable TV, like many other campgrounds.

4. Lake Breeze RV Park

Lake Breeze RV Park is an adult, 55-and-older park located in Lakeport, Florida. So, you will not be able to stay here if you are a young family. It is meant to be a quiet place for older guests to relax on their RV trips.

When you are here, you will be able to relax, go fishing, and enjoy the sunny weather. The small town nearby has everything you need, from convenience stores to restaurants and even a rodeo.

There are daily, weekly, and monthly rates, but you can rent a campsite for up to six months at a time. Rates are usually discounted to guests who pay the full amount in advance. All site rates include water, sewer, garbage, lawn care, and the use of fish cleaning houses.

Unfortunately, electricity is not included in monthly and seasonal rates, and as a result, it will be billed separately. Additionally, you should note that rates are for one or two person occupancy. Extra guests need to pay $5 per day or $60 per month.

Tropical Palms Resort is located in Kissimmee, Florida. It is not one of the most well-known resorts in the state, but it is a hidden gem that past visitors have loved. You can stay at an RV site, or you can rent a cottage.

If you rent a cottage, you will get a private deck, full kitchen, flat-screen TV, sleeper sofa, and access to several floor plans. There are also pet-friendly cottages available. There are 343 sites combined between the cottages and RV sites.

The resort is four miles from Walt Disney World Resort and within walking distance of Old Town and Fun Spot. So, if your kids have not been having fun on the rest of the trip, they will instantly forgive you when you bring them here. Theme park tickets are available on-site.

When you choose to stay at one of the RV sites at Tropical Palms Resort you will have access to many great amenities. Those amenities include a pool, café, shuffleboard, bocce ball, horseshoes, live entertainment, social events, and laundry facilities.

8. Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA

Now we will get into the final KOA resort on this list, Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA. This park is minutes from the main attractions of central Florida, including Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and LEGO LAND.

You can also head to Mount Dora, which is nearby and has shopping centers, restaurants, antiques, and entertainment. Your children will have fun on the playground, and your dog will have fun at the dog park. There are plenty of games for you to enjoy, including corn hole and shuffleboard.

RV sites at this park come with full hookups and 100-foot paved pull-through sites with concrete patios. Other amenities include cable TV and free Wi-Fi. Firewood and propane are also available for sale on-site. Finally, you can rent bikes on site to explore the roads and trails.

9. Sherwood Forest RV Resort

Sherwood Forest RV Resort is another great RV campground to stay at as you pass through central Florida. There are nearly 100 sites available, and each has water, sewer, and electric hookups.

However, you will be billed separately for electricity usage. There are daily, weekly, and monthly rates, with the better rates being for longer stays. No refunds are provided after check-in, and credit is only given for illness emergencies.

When you stay at this campground, you will have access to a variety of amenities. These amenities include laundry facilities, restrooms, showers, pools, clubhouses, hot tubs, a hair salon, a pavilion, picnic areas, charcoal grills, a scenic lake, picnic tables, and oversized RV sites.

There is also a 24-hour camp host who is there to answer any questions you might have. Finally, there are social activities that take place here throughout the year. So, you will need to check the calendar to see if anything fun is happening during your stay.

10. Orlando Winter Garden Campground Resort

Finally, we will be looking at the Orlando Winter Garden Campground Resort. This RV campground will provide you with a place to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Floridian countryside.

The campground is centrally located in the state, meaning you are just minutes away from some of the best attractions in the state. Additionally, you are only a short 90-minute drive from either coast. So, you can spend all day at fun attractions before relaxing at night at your beautiful campsite.

Notably, the campground is just a few minutes away from Walt Disney World, but that is just one of a few things that can occupy your time. When you stay at this RV campground, you will have access to a variety of amenities.

These amenities include a clubhouse, RV storage, playground, shuffleboard, swimming pool, shower, bathroom, fitness center, horseshoes, laundry, and Wi-Fi. However, you should note that you need to pay for the Wi-Fi. You can also upgrade to high-speed internet if you want.
