1. Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens has 66-acres of immaculate gardens that offer lots of interest, including the younger family members, including the fantastic 8 acres Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden which has a fun recreation area, as well as, the Children’s Garden Café. You can also pack your own lunch and enjoy the picnic areas too.
2. See Dallas from Reunion Tower
Reunion Tower, an iconic Dallas landmark, offers panoramic 360-degree views of the Dallas skyline. Located next to the Hyatt Regency Dallas, the Reunion Tower GeO-Deck provides an indoor/outdoor observation deck, distinct dining options, and unique, entertaining spaces. Visit with family, friends, a group, or your sweetheart to create unforgettable memories at 470 feet in the air!
3. Camp at Enchanted Rock

Or you can head on over to the Santa Elena Canyon, which is a winding valley that separates the US and Mexico. Or you can try finding Cattail Falls, which is hidden off the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive at the base of the Chisos Mountains. This luscious desert oasis even has a picturesque waterfall that is 80 feet tall. The park has the darkest skies in the state, which makes it perfect for viewing the stars at night.
6. Hike Through Palo Duro Canyon
Palo Duro Canyon State Park is known as The Grand Canyon of Texas, and it is the second largest canyon in the US. So, it only sees 300,000 visitors a year rather than the 5 million or so that visit the Grand Canyon. So, take advantage of fewer crowds and be sure to visit this less well known Canyon.
7. Go To a Rodeo!
Visit the World’s on year round rodeo in Ft. Worth at Stockyards Championship Rodeo. There is a Rodeo every Friday and Saturday night!
8. Colorado Bend State Park
The biggest attraction at Colorado Bend State Park is Gorman Falls. Visitors love to cool off in Spicewood Springs. And there are tons of other activities in the park to enjoy like fishing or paddling the river, taking a cave tour, and hiking or and biking over 35 miles of the Park’s trails. Colorado Bend also offers camping. It offers drive-up sites, walk-in tent sites, or primitive hike-in sites. The drive-up and hike-in sites have water in the area, but no hookups.
9. Guadalupe Mountains National Park
It’s a bit of a drive from Dallas, but Guadalupe Mountains National Park is where you will find the four highest peaks in Texas. The National Park is also teaming with wildlife, including golden eagles. The landscape is gorgeous, especially around El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak, which is the highest elevation in Texas. It is incredibly popular with outdoor enthusiasts and hikers who appreciate it’s 80 miles of hiking trails through woodland canyons and springs.
10. Stockyards National Historic District
The Stockyard National Historic District is Fort Worth’s biggest draw. The Stockyard was founded in 1866 and took its name from the cattle industry. Millions of cattle were rested, fed, sorted, or shipped out to other towns all across the state.
This is the last surviving cattle facility of its kind in the US. These historic stockyards have been converted into a splendid attraction consisting of all sorts of fun things to see, including rodeos, concerts, theatrical performances, and western-themed shopping. Highlights include cattle driving demonstrations and a chance to saddle up for some trail riding.
