Travel trailers with a Murphy Bed are great for creating more usable space inside your camper. A Murphy bed serves as a couch during the day and a bed at night. These multi-functional beds are a great way to maximize the living space in any caper trailer.

A Murphy bed is also referred to as a wall bed or pull-down bed. It is a bed that is hinged on one head to the wall so that it can be stored vertically against the wall when it isn’t in use. Then when someone needs to use it, it can be brought down and used by an inhabitant.

The biggest benefit of a Murphy bed is that it opens up a lot of space inside the travel trailer. This is extremely valuable because you’re already working with limited space in most travel trailers. It’s especially valuable in small travel trailers because it opens up the living area.

Finding the best travel trailer with a Murphy bed can be a difficult task. There’s a lot you need to consider before you make a purchase. One problem many people run into is that they can only find smaller options.

Since Murphy beds provide extra living space, they are usually additions to smaller travel trailers. However, just because you want a Murphy bed doesn’t mean you want a small travel trailer. So, you need to do your research so that you can find the best travel trailer with a Murphy bed that’s still a decent size.

Read on to see our list of the best travel trailers with Murphy beds in 2024. We have visited RV Shows and dealerships all across the country to come up with our list!

Are Murphy Beds Easy to Use?

Yes, they are very easy to use. We recommend using a bungee cord around the bed to hold your sheets and comforter in place when you stow the bed away.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your RV is completely level before unfolding your Murphy bed. You may want to use leveling blocks to achieve this.

10 Best Travel Trailers with a Murphy Bed For 2024

Here, we’ll look at 10 options that could be the best travel trailer with a Murphy bed. You should note that although this is a numbered list, we did not rank the trailers. Additionally, you should note that some trailers will have more than one bed.

We’ll look primarily at the length, unloaded vehicle weight, sleeping capacity, and MSRP of each trailer. However, we’ll look at other features that improve the trailers as well. We hope that one of these travel trailers is a good fit for you.

1. r-pod RP-203

r-pod RP-203 Interior
r-pod RP-203 Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Tons of storage space throughout, with over a ton of capacity

⛔ Lacks kitchen drawers

  • Length: 25′
  • UVW: 5,169 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,725 lbs
  • CCC: 2,556 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 725 lbs
  • Sleep: 8

The r-pod is like the ultimate teardrop, retaining the frame and overall look of one, but on a much larger scale. The fact that these travel trailers come with a Murphy bed further increases the available interior space anytime you need it.

For whatever reason, the RP series began to pick up steam after the pandemic. It seems like consumers are picking up on what it has to offer.

At 25′, it sleeps 8 and has a full bathroom, dinette, double bunks, and a large Murphy bed, flanked by wardrobes and nightstands. It’s hard to argue with how much Forest River did with less space.

2. Winnebago Hike H1316MB

Winnebago Hike H1316MB Exterior

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Features Dexter Torsion axle-less suspension system

⛔ Only a small fridge and microwave for food storage and cooking

  • Length: 15′ 9″
  • UVW: 3,178 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,200 lbs
  • CCC: 1,022 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 546 lbs
  • Sleep: 3

Winnebago is inextricably linked with the very idea of camping RV-style. This tiny little camper doesn’t look like much, but it packs quite a punch despite its size limitations. In travel trailers this small, the value of a Murphy Bed is huge. It opens up so much space when you don’t need to sleep.

Also, it folds into a sofa quick and easy, with little effort on your part. Though the H1316MB lacks a traditional kitchen, you can always add your own portable stove when you want. In the meantime, you still have the advantages of a bathroom, sink, plenty of storage capacity, a table, fridge, and microwave.

3. Vintage Cruiser 23MBS

Vintage Cruiser 23MBS Exterior

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Wood Estate interior and exterior aesthetic is fantastic

⛔ A/C is optional, not standard

  • Length: 26.1′
  • UVW: 4,253 lbs
  • GVWR: 5,929 lbs
  • CCC: 1,676 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 490 lbs
  • Sleep: 4

Of all the travel trailers on this list that come with a Murphy bed, you have to love the vintage style and aesthetic that Gulf Stream Vintage Cruiser is going for. Vintage is in style again, but don’t mistake Gulf Stream’s vintage look for a non-modern travel trailer.

You still get all the bells and whistles with this one, including a full outdoor kitchen, a jack-knife sofa/Murphy bed, an indoor kitchen, and an HDTV with hookups for additional tech. It also features pass-through storage and nearly a ton of additional storage capacity.

4. Northwood Nash 18FM

Northwood Nash 18FM Exterior Travel Trailers Murphy Bed

Northwood Nash 18FM Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Tons of storage space, including pantry, cabinetry, drawers, linen closets, and wardrobes

⛔ You can’t do much inside the RV, including accessing the bathroom, with the slide-in

  • Length: 22.9′
  • UVW: 5,106 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,400 lbs
  • CCC: 1,738 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 556 lbs
  • Sleep: 4

If you’re looking for something a little different but still want a Murphy Bed, Northwood’s Nash 18FM may be the right one for you. That’s because Northwood manufactures its own chassis and falls outside of that rapidly shrinking pool of independent RV manufacturers.

The Nash in particular is a very spacious RV, so long as the slide is out, that is. It also offers a very comfortable R&R interior, with larger and softer cushioning than most travel trailers offer, within the same class. This extra cushioning applies to the Murphy bed as well, so get ready to count sheep in comfort.

5. Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S

Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S Exterior
Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S Interior Travel Trailers Murphy Bed
Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Fantastic headroom, overall space, and storage options

⛔ TV is at a 90-degree angle from the Murphy bed

  • Length: 25.9′
  • UVW: 5,440 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,933 lbs
  • CCC: 1,493 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 773 lbs
  • Sleep: 8

We have several family travel trailers in this line-up, with Murphy beds adding to the allure. The Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S is one such RV, with a ton of space and a high sleeping capacity. The double bunks are especially nice, with enough remaining room in the back for a full bathroom.

It also comes with an outdoor kitchen, which includes a slide-out griddle and a two-burner stove. You can spend time cooking outdoors with an 18′ awning to keep you cool and in the shade. The standard option comes with a large dinette in the slide, but you can opt for theater seating or a hide-a-bed.

6. Heartland Sundance 21HB

Heartland Sundance 21HB Exterior
Heartland Sundance 21HB Interior
Heartland Sundance 21HB Floorplan Travel Trailers Murphy Bed

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Flip-up baggage door is a huge plus, along with the extra-large dinette in the back

⛔ Bathroom is a really tight fit

  • Length: 24.8′
  • UVW: 4,542 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,995 lbs
  • CCC: 2,450 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 452 lbs
  • Sleep: 4

The Heartland Sundance 21HB is one of the more versatile RVs on this list. The Murphy bed is a given, but the 21HB also features a unique, hatchback design that’s very convenient when dining or having lunch at the rear table.

The remainder of the interior is spacious, with a large bathroom and a decent-sized kitchen directly across from it. It’s the perfect camper size for sleeping up to four people, with over a ton of cargo carrying capacity for all the gear, mods, and additions you want to bring along for the ride.

7. East To West Silver Lake 18BHLE

East To West Silver Lake 18BHLE Exterior Travel Trailers Murphy Bed
East To West Silver Lake 18BHLE Interior
East To West Silver Lake 18BHLE Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ A ton of sleeping space in a relatively small travel trailer

⛔ Low cargo carrying capacity for a travel trailer that sleeps 8

  • Length: 23′
  • UVW: 4,354 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,965 lbs
  • CCC: 611 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 565 lbs
  • Sleep: 8

One of several family travel trailers with a Murphy bed on our list, the East To West Silver Lake 18BHLE packs a lot into a small space. In fact, it’s the one real drawback of this travel trailer. The weight doesn’t allow for much in the way of cargo-carrying capacity.

It features a large, walk-in shower, and a queen-sized Murphy bed that includes underneath storage. There’s also a storage option underneath the large dinette. Though there’s no exterior kitchen, there is an outside shower for those long days on a sandy beach.

8. Jayco Jay Flight 235MBH

Jayco Jay Flight 235MBH Exterior
Jayco Jay Flight 235MBH Interior Travel Trailers Murphy Bed
Jayco Jay Flight 235MBH Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ The perfect compromise between large families and travel trailers that are just too long

⛔ Murphy bed could use some DIY reinforcement

  • Length: 27′ 10″
  • UVW: 5,660 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,850 lbs
  • CCC: 1,190 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 680 lbs
  • Sleep: 8

The Jayco Jay Flight 235MBH is one of the few travel trailers with a Murphy bed that offers some level of privacy for whoever is sleeping on it. In this case, it’s a slide-out curtain that stretches the width of the travel trailer across.

As for everyone else, there are double bunks, along with the convertible dinette, which accounts for a total of 8 potential sleepers. The bathroom is large enough to get around inside without bumping your elbows. The living and kitchen space is large enough as well, though the TV could be a bit larger.

9. Grand Design Imagine 25BHE

Grand Design Imagine 25BHE Exterior
Grand Design Imagine 25BHE Interior
Grand Design Imagine 25BHE Floorplan Travel Trailers Murphy Bed

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Full-featured, exterior kitchen setup and the TV location is perfect

⛔ Comes with the underwhelming leaf-spring suspension system

  • Length: 29.9′
  • UVW: 6,244 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,395 lbs
  • CCC: 1,151 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 807 lbs
  • Sleep: 8

For travel trailers that can sleep up to eight people, it’s always nice to see that exterior kitchen, as well as a sizeable awning to keep everyone in shade, at least until nightfall. Though the kitchen is part of the lone slide, it doesn’t prevent you from accessing anything when the slide is in.

Like several options on this list, the Grand Design Imagine 25BHE features double bunks in the rear, splitting the back end in half, with the bathroom taking up the remaining space. Even with the double bunks, the bathroom is still plenty roomy, with a large shower and room to move about.

10. Keystone Passport 189RB

Keystone Passport 189RB Exterior Travel Trailers Murphy Bed
Keystone Passport 189RB Interior
Keystone Passport 189RB Floorplan

Our Pros and Cons

✅ The bathroom is large and very spacious, taking up the entire back quarter of the RV

⛔ TV is at an odd angle from the bed

  • Length: 22′ 9″
  • UVW: 4,670 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,430 lbs
  • CCC: 1,760 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 530 lbs
  • Sleep: 4

Last on our list of travel trailers with a Murphy bed, the Keystone Passport 189RB wraps things up with a twist of its own. It’s one of the few travel trailers that sticks with the bathroom in the back, as sort of an end-cap. It works even better in reality than it does when looking at the floorplan.

The bathroom is spacious and not rubbing shoulders with double bunks. Of course, the sleeping capacity is only four, but that covers a broad dynamic of families today. The L-shaped counter keeps the kitchen from extending into the living space and, when the Murphy bed is up, there is a ton of space left behind.

Are Travel Trailer Murphy Beds Comfortable?

Since a Murphy bed locks in place during the day, any improvements to the mattress (like making it firmer, thicker, or adding a topper) mean you may have to adjust the locking mechanism.

However, you can add a topper and remove it when you fold up the bed, although then you will have to consider storage for the topper. If you feel confident in your DIY skills, you may also be able to adjust the locks to add a thicker mattress.

Pros and Cons of Murphy Bed in a Trailer

Simply put, Murphy beds are a wonderful solution but may not be for everyone for various reasons. Here are a few pros and cons of getting a camper trailer with a Murphy bed.

Pros:

Probably the biggest advantage of getting a travel trailer with a Murphy bed is that you will be using space during the day that would otherwise go to waste because of a bed. Murphy beds free up a lot of living space and can potentially allow you to get a smaller trailer since you will not need as much floor space.

Also, unlike a trailer with a convertible bed that folds into a dinette, you do not need to unmake your Murphy bed. You will need to remove blankets and bedspreads more than likely, but you can leave the sheets on and fold the whole thing up into the wall until you need it again that night thankfully.

Cons:

There are not a lot of cons honestly, but the biggest disadvantage to a Murphy bed is that you lose your sleeping space during the day.  So, if you like to nap, or say read in your bed during the afternoon, you may want to consider a different solution.

Some people also find that a Murphy bed mattress is uncomfortable, and any solution to fix the mattress will either involve a topper you need to store separately during the day or will involve changing the mechanism that fastens your bed to the wall.

While a travel trailer with a Murphy bed may not work for everyone, you may find that it’s the perfect solution for you and your family.

  1. They were okay, but really only one if you don’t plan on dragging two grandkids with you on your retirement.

  2. Rockwood mini-lite 2507S was somehow missed. Many standard features as well as a full 60X80 queen bed.

  3. Yes we’re looking for an ultra lite with Murphy bed but without the bunk beds please ! Actually the RV shows we’ve been to it’s hard to find one with the Murphy bed at all ………
We love our dodge half ton truck so that’s not an option to give up so if anyone out there wants our business they better start listening to us !

  4. Nice compilation! One thing to add which I think is an important feature you left out on the Geo Pro 19FD. Yes its a couples camper not meant for a family however the price falls in the 22-23K not the 33k msrp. What sets this camper apart from all the others listed is the fact GEO adds several upgrades as standard. From Off Road Package..Bigger Tires and Torflex axel. 190Watt Solar panel with 1K inverter,
Larger Stainless Kitchen sink with Goose neck faucet, Tire Pressure Monitor System, All aluminum framing with Azdel Walls & Roof… 12 V 10 Cubic’ Fridge, 12 V Dual TV/DVD, Keyed a Like System, Showermiser system, WiFi & TV Booster, Heated Tanks. These are all Standard, nobody comes close to this.

  5. Your blog is so great, I’m new at buying a travel trailer, we will purchase within the next 12 months. I’m a researcher by nature, any major purchase, I do my homework so I truly appreciate the wonderful information you provide. I know the length, I feel comfortable pulling and want 2 tandem axle. We have pulled horse trailers for years so hauling is not new to us. Driven motor homes several times but a travel trailer will be new for us. I’m interested in 20-22 feet max tip to tip one slide out and murphy bed would be nice. Sleep 2-3 max. Question if you have a previous article on single verses double tandem plus receiving mixed information on length bumper to front or tongue or ? Would appreciate any and all information that would help me with a purchase prefer not to buy new. We have a new ram crew cab that will tow up to 10K and the 3.92 axle for towing. Thank you
