What Do I Need to Pack When I Rent an RV?

For example, Susan and I inquired about a one way rental from San Francisco to San Diego and the fee was $500. Pretty steep.

Can I Have an RV Rental Delivered to My Campsite and Set Up?

Yes! Absolutely you can!

Say for example you want to rent a towable RV like a travel trailer or 5th wheel but you can’t tow an RV. Well, there are rentals available on Outdoorsy where the owner will deliver their camper right to your campsite, set everything up for you, give you an orientation tour, and then pick it back up at the end of your stay. It just doesn’t get any more convenient than that.

Some RV owners will provide the delivery and set up for free but most charge a fee for this service. It’s usually in the $100 range.

Pro Tip: try to find an RV rental as close as possible to your campground to keep the fee as low as possible. Maybe you can even talk to the owner and get them to throw it in for free!

10 Amazing Things To Do in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park has been one of the premier locations for climbers and nature lovers for decades. People from all around the world come to this stunning national park to see it in all its glory. It is filled with stunning views, beautiful landscapes, and gorgeous wildlife. There are so many things to think about when you get to Yosemite that it can be overwhelming. So, here are some of the best things to do when you get to Yosemite National Park. 

1. Check Out the Yosemite Falls

The Yosemite Falls are some of the most memorable and striking features in Yosemite National park. The falls will repeatedly pop into view over treetops and around corners as you make your way through the valley. However, each time you will get a new experience as every angle looks different. 

While you need to hike to see some of the things in Yosemite, that is not the case with the Yosemite Falls. Instead, you can get some of the best views of the falls from the start of the Yosemite Falls hike. You can also get to the base of the falls with minimal effort and let the mist sweep over you. 

2. Go See Half Dome

Half Dome is one of the most famous walls in the world and one of the most well known parts of Yosemite National Park. It is a flat wall of granite that attracts thousands of tourists and climbers every year. When you first see the wall you will see why climbers are drawn to it. The sheer size of it is overwhelming, but it is also beautiful. 

You can see Half Dome in the distance from Tunnel View, but that is not the best place to view it. Instead, you should head to Glacier Point to get the best view possible. From here you will be able to Half Dome in all its glory.

If you prefer to get a close up view, the Mirror Lake hike is the best option. This will take you almost straight up to the face of the rock. You can also hike up Half Dome if you are feeling adventurous. However, it is not like your average hike, so you will need to be prepared for a lengthy and difficult hike 

3. Head Over to El Capitan

If there is one wall that can rival Half Dome, it is El Capitan. El Capitan is 3000 feet of sheer rock face on the north side of Yosemite Valley. Although you might not be able to tell from looking at it, it is actually 1000 feet higher than Half Dome. 

El Capitan entered pop culture in 2017 when Alex Honnold free soloed the climb. A documentary, Free Solo, was released documenting his climb up the wall without a rope or any protective equipment. If you are anyone else in the world you will want to get to the top of the wall from the other side. You can hike to the top of El Capitan and see the amazing view that comes with it. 

4. Go See the Tunnel View

We have mentioned it a few times already, but you should see the Tunnel View. From this spot, you will see El Capitan on the left and Bridalveil Fall on the right. You can even see Half Dome in the distance. 

Although it is an incredible sight at any time of day, it is especially beautiful in the afternoon. This is when the walls are bathed in sunlight and you get to see everything at its most magnificent. 

5. Go to Glacier Point

If you want a great view of the entire valley, you should head to Glacier Point. At an elevation of 7200 feet, you will be able to see nearly all the other sites in the valley. It is about an hour’s drive to get from Yosemite Village to Glacier Point. However, you do not need to go there in one shot as there are several hikes and lookouts in the area for you to explore. 

If you go to Glacier Point you should definitely do the Four Mile Trail Hike. It runs down 3200 feet down into Yosemite Valley, coming out near Sentinel Rock. You should also note that despite the name, the trail is actually closer to five miles. It can be a difficult hike as it has a steep grade and is in relatively poor condition. 

6. Visit Bridalveil Fall

Another classic site in Yosemite National Park is Bridalveil Fall. It is on the south side of the valley and is an easy waterfall to reach on foot. There is a short trail that will take you right to it. When you get to the base of the fall you will feel the spray of water hitting you as it crashes into the boulders at the base of the falls. 

7. Take a Stroll Down Tioga Road

When you hike down Tioga Road you will see some beautiful alpine scenery. You will see wildflowers blooming in the open meadows and pristine lakes reflecting on the mountain peaks. However, due to the elevation, the road is only open during the summer. The east entrance to the park is at an elevation of 9945 feet. 

8. Go to the Yosemite Museum and Indian Village

While a lot of people think Yosemite is only known for its natural wonders, it was a place that was inhabited by natives for more than 3000 years. When you get to the village you can learn all about the first people that made this valley their home. There is a museum that has artifacts on display, and docents are on hand to give demonstrations and answer questions. 

The building itself is built in the traditional style used by the Miwok people who once lived in the area before Europeans came and introduced their style. 

9. Visit the Ansel Adams Gallery

The Ansel Adams Gallery is a collection of photographs taken by Ansel Adams. Some of his most famous pieces are black and white photos of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and Jeffrey Pine. Many duplicates of the famous photos are for sale. 

10. Give Climbing a Try

1. Upper Pines Campground

Upper Pines Campground is located in Yosemite National Park in Central California’s rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The park sits at an elevation of roughly 4000 feet. At the campground, you will have a stunning view of the waterfalls, granite cliffs, and deep valleys of the park. 

Upper Pines Campground is the largest of the three reservation campgrounds in Yosemite Valley. There are paved roads that lead the sites, and there are parking spurs, flush toilets, and drinking water available to all guests. This park is also located near Curry Village which has a general store, restaurants, and other buildings for you to check out. 

2. Yosemite Lakes RV Resort

Yosemite Lakes RV Resort is located 80 miles to the east of Modesto, and it is just 5 miles west of Yosemite National Park’s Big Oak Flat entrance station. This large, year round resort has nearly 400 sites for RV and tent campers along the banks of the South Fork Tuolumne River. RVers will have their choice of open, grassy, or shady spaces.  

All sites come equipped with picnic tables and fire pits. There are showers and bathroom facilities available to all guests. There are several of these facilities located throughout the resort. Additionally, there is even a laundry room for you to use. 

All guests will have access to Wi-Fi and satellite RV service. Trash receptacles, a gas station, and a propane depot are also available. Dogs are also welcome to roam around in the campground. 

 3. Camp 4

Camp 4 is an interesting campground because it has parking available adjacent to the campground, but you cannot sleep in your vehicle directly on the campground. Instead, you will need to take a very short walk to your campsite and sleep in a tent. You get a free parking permit when you register, so you will have a place to put your RV. So, instead of sleeping in an RV, you will get a more authentic camping experience. 

Every campsite comes equipped with a fire pit, picnic table, and four shared food lockers. There is a bathroom on site with drinking water and flushing toilets. You should also note that there is a 30 night camping limit here. 

4. North Pines Campground

North Pines Campground is located in Yosemite National Park at an elevation of 4000 feet. When you stay here you will have a view of the stunning natural wonders in the park. 

This campground is one of the three reservation campgrounds in Yosemite Valley. It has paved roads, parking spurs, flush toilets, and drinking water. Each campsite also comes with a picnic table, fire ring, and a food storage locker. There is also a free shuttle bus that stops at this campground.  

5. Lower Pines Campground

Lower Pines Campground is the last of the three reservation campgrounds in Yosemite Valley. Like with the other two campgrounds you will have a beautiful view of the stunning natural wonders in the valley when you stay here. 

The campground has paved roads, parking spurs, flush toilets, and drinking water. There is even an amphitheater on site. You will also find that Curry Village is within walking distance of this campground. At the village, you will have access to a general store, restaurants, bars, and tours. 

6. Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground is one of the highest campgrounds, sitting at an elevation of 8600 feet. It is situated along the scenic Tioga Road, five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. From this campground, you will be able to see waterfalls, granite cliffs, deep valleys, and beautiful meadows. Campsites are available up to five months in advance.

The facilities in this campground contain family, horse, and group campsites. The campsites have picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers. There are also flush toilets, drinking water, and an amphitheater provided to guests. 

7. Mill Creek Campground – Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park

Mill Creek Campground – Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park is in a mixed conifer forest with a stand of beautiful aspens. It is just off Highway 108 and is 14 miles from the Summit Ranger Station. There are 17 sites available to visitors, each with a table and fire ring. The main roads and parking pads are dirt surfaces. Unfortunately, potable water is not available. 

8. June Lake

June Lake is a great spot if you are more interested in water based activities than hiking. Here you will be able to enjoy fishing, a marina, and you will have access to boat rentals. The campground is close to the Ansel Adams Wilderness, Yosemite National Park, and Mono Lake. 

This campground is medium sized with campsites that are scattered around in overlapping loops. The facility provides drinking water to all guests. There are also flush toilets, and bear proof lockers for food storage. 

9. Crane Flat

Crane Flat is 17 miles from Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 6200 feet. Reservations are available up to five months in advance. The facilities can accommodate both tent and RV campers. The roads and parking spurs leading up to the campground are paved. There are also flush toilets and drinking water provided to guests. Each campsite comes with a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. There is also a gas station and a small general store nearby. 

10. Lundy Canyon Campground

Sitting at an elevation of 7660 feet, this seasonal campground is set among the beautiful Aspen Grove lining the banks of Mill Creek. At Lundy Canyon Campground you will find 36 campsites that are first come first serve. Reservations are not available here. Each campsite comes with a restroom, non-potable water spigots, picnic benches, fire rings, and bear boxes.
