Editor’s Pick for the Best Screen House for Camping

If you want to know our absolute top pick for the best screen house for camping, you’ll have to stick around just a little while longer.

We cover our top pick in-depth towards the end of the article! Scroll down to see our overall winner. (And to find out why thousands of RVers are raving about this particular screen tent).

Benefits of Using a Screen Tent While Camping

Using a screen house while camping is truly a game changer. While it might not be the first camping accessory you think of, you’ll quickly wonder how you ever lived without it!

Being in nature means being close to nature: even the biting kind. Most bugs aren’t bothersome, but mosquitos can be a real pain and can quickly ruin a camping trip… not to mention: they can make you really sick, too.

A screen house protects you from insects, shades you from the sun, and even allows you to enjoy your outdoor camping space while it’s raining.

They’re perfect to use for an outdoor picnic or camping meal or for hanging out around your RV on a scorching summer day.

Many RVers like to use them in the winter to hang out outside because they can even help block the cold wind! Some screen houses for camping come with optional wall panels that you can install on the sides where cold wind is blowing. This also helps keep rain out, too.

If you spend a lot of time camping, we highly recommend investing in a screen house. Here are our top picks!

How to Choose the Best Screen Houses for Camping Picnic Tables

When you are looking for screen houses for camping picnic tables there are several factors you need to consider? What is the size of the tent and how much does it weigh? Can it be easily stored and transported? Is it easy to set up? What is the capacity and how much does it cost?

The importance of each of these factors will vary depending on your situation. However, they should all carry some weight. Below we will look at the importance of each factor and what you should look for in each of them.

Size

Size is an important factor to consider for a couple reasons. Firstly, you need a screen house that is big enough to hold all the people that are traveling with you.

Secondly, you need a tent that can also fit all the patio furniture that you might want inside it. Screen houses are not like regular tents, they are meant to be quite large. As a result, you need to make sure you are purchasing a product that can accommodate all your needs.

Weight

The last thing you want to be doing is lugging around a big and heavy screen house. That would be exhausting and having a heavier tent would mean that set up would take longer.

As a result, you should try to look for lightweight options. There are screen houses that can provide 100 square feet of shade while weighing between 10 and 20 pounds. So, look around, consider your choices, and you should be able to find a high quality, lightweight option.

Packed Size

While the size of the screen house is important, the packed size is just as, if not more important. You cannot go camping with your screen house if you do not have any space to store it.

Therefore, you need to make sure that the tent can be compacted a great deal when it is folded up. Otherwise, you will either need to leave it behind or forego packing something else.

Remember, you only have a limited amount of space to work within your RV, so you need to be careful with what you pack. If you have a screen house that is not compact, you will have trouble packing everything you need.

Easy to Set Up

While some people are better at setting up tents than others, everyone would prefer to have one that is easy to set up. In your search for screen houses, you should look for labels that show that the screen house is easy to set up.

Several screen houses will have one button setup options. Most screen houses can be set up in under five minutes, so if you find one that takes longer, you should consider a different product.

Capacity

The capacity of your screen house is obviously important as you might want to be sure your screen house will fit over a picnic table and accommodate everyone in your camping group.

There are several options that can fit up to eight people. That should be enough for most families, so keep an eye on the capacity before you make your purchase.

Otherwise, you will be stuck taking turns in the screen house instead of hanging out in there together with your family.

Price

Finally, price is a very important factor for a lot of people. RVing is a very expensive activity, and as a result, you might be tempted to purchase cheaper products to save some money.

However, your screen house is not something you should cheap out on. You will be using your screen house a lot on the campsite, and it will be put under a great deal of strain when there is severe weather.

When this weather comes you do not want a cheap tent. Cheap tents will collapse more easily, they are less durable, and you will probably need to replace them sooner.

So, spend a little extra money now on a more durable screen house and you can save some money down the road. After all, it is cheaper to purchase one slightly more expensive screen house than two cheap ones.

  1. Looking for a popup screened canopy/tent that will sort of “attach” to a Casita trailer so we can leave the door open and expand our living space. We have a dog, so want it to have some sort of cover for below ther trailer to keep critters and bugs out, and the dog in. Also, to keep out bugs need a cover that goes over the Casita door. Heard of anything like that? I was thinking one of the car-attached tents, but haven’t found it yet.

  2. Thank you so much for this helpful article! You’ve practically convinced me that I need a Clam. I was looking for a tent room that is easy for one person to set up. There are a lot of options out there and I really appreciate your thorough reviews.
