What Size Truck Do You Need For A 5th Wheel?
In the vast majority of cases, only 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks will pull 5th wheels with 2 bedrooms. A 5th wheel that’s lighter than 10,000 lbs may be doable in a 1/2-ton, so long as the truck’s capabilities are a match. However, they typically don’t stuff two full bedrooms in an RV that’s towable with a 1/2-ton.
As a very general rule, follow the below bullet points for matching truck sizes with 5th wheels:
- 1/2-ton: 7,500 lbs to 10,000 lbs
- 3/4-ton: 10,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs
- 1-ton: 15,000 lbs plus

5th Wheel Vs. Travel Trailer: Which Should You Buy?
