Why Are Toy Hauler Motorhomes Hard To Find?

With the overall demand for toy haulers on the rise, it’s interesting that toy hauler motorhomes aren’t getting the memo. The thing is, slapping a garage onto a motorhome is no easy feat.

There’s a fine line that manufacturers have to straddle to provide consumers with plenty of CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity), without chewing it all up with the garage.

A garage means more weight, through more materials and a framework that can handle it. Then you tack on the weight of an ATV that’s pushing half a ton, a car on the hitch, all of your own gear, number of passengers, maybe pets as well, and you get one seriously heavy home on wheels.

It’s also a trade-off commodity. You’re trading off space that’s normally used for a bathroom, kitchen, and living area, for a garage space.

While the garage is great for hauling your toys around, you’ll always have to deal with the fumes from ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, etc. That makes the space less livable, even though it will probably have a drop-down bed and dual-opposing sofas.

Best Used Toy Hauler Motorhomes

There aren’t a ton of toy hauler motorhomes running around out there, which makes the best of the best stand out. The Outlaw is probably the most familiar, though Newmar and some lesser-known RV manufacturers have some skin in the game as well.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Garage has its own, dedicated A/C unit

⛔ The fuel system of the Godzilla V8 engine is very complex and also difficult for DIY maintenance

  • Engine: Godzilla V8 7.3L
  • Length: 39′ 10″
  • Tow Capacity: 8,000 lbs
  • Garage: 8′ x 10’2″
  • Chassis: Ford Chassis
  • GVWR: 26,000 lbs
  • Sleep: 5
  • Ramp: 7’2″ x 8’4″

The above specs are based on the Thor Outlaw 38K Wild West Edition.

The Thor Outlaw is a class-A motorhome with a toy hauler. It’s practically a giant in comparison to many motorhomes on the market. Regardless of where you plan to go, with a toy or two in tow, the Thor Outlaw can get you there.

The cargo weight limit of the garage space (toy hauler) on the motorhome is between 1600 lbs and 1800 lbs. The max weight fluctuates depending on the model of Thor Outlaw you choose.

There are several versions available to pick from. Each model varies slightly from the next in bed spaces, storage spaces, basic utilities, weight limits, and other basic utilities. These motorhomes measure out to approximately 39 ft. in length.

They sleep a maximum of eight people between a king-size bed, two queen-size beds, and a sofa bed (a leatherette). There are also plenty of storage areas tucked away throughout the entire motorhome. The kitchen is all state-of-the-art, reminding you very much of what you’d find in an extremely high-end motorhome.

The interior of the toy hauler motorhome is luxurious to boot (and the outside looks pretty great too). It comes with glazed wood floors and polished countertops as well as nickel-finished hardware throughout the vehicle. The accommodations inside are second to none; five TVs, a reading table, built-in 4G hotspots, Wi-Fi, DVD, and Blu-ray players, stereo, and much more.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ The 2022 line includes an upgrade to the Cummins diesel over the F-53 gas variation

⛔ The ramp sticks out when closed, reducing the interior real estate by nearly a foot

  • Engine: Cummins 340hp 6.7L turbocharged diesel
  • Length: 39’11”
  • Tow Capacity: 6,000 lbs
  • Garage: 8’5″ x 10′
  • Chassis: Freightliner MC
  • GVWR: 30,000 lbs
  • Sleep: 7
  • Ramp: N/A

The Newmar Canyon Star 3927 is another excellent motorhome with a garage. Just as the first choice on our list was chosen in part due to its luxurious nature, the Newmar Canyon Star 3927 was selected for many of the same reasons, including that it’s designed for heavy-duty usage as well as being a luxurious motorhome with a toy hauler in general.

If you’re searching for a great toy hauler motorhome that’s genuinely comfortable, accommodating in all the right areas, and easy to operate, you may have hit pay-dirt with the Newmar Canyon Star 3927. It comes with an 8 ft. wide by 10 ft. long toy-hauling garage space. Its payload capacity is approximately 4375 lbs.

The motorhome and garage combination measures a whopping 39.92 ft. long and sleeps up to a staggering 10 people. There are several beds in the rig. This includes a comfortable queen size in the master bedroom. There are also a couple of sofa beds throughout the rest of the vehicle.

The outside of the motorhome and the front cap are protected by high-end paint and finish. This includes Full-Paint Masterpiece Finish, Clear Coat Finish, and DuraShield Protection as well. That means the exterior will preserve its quality and aesthetic value far longer than other motorhomes and RVs.

Even more, the inside of the Newmar Canyon Star 3927 toy hauler motorhome is just as impressive as the outside. Facilities of the motorhome include everything you’d expect in a high-end coach or hotel room; LED TVs, DVD players, BOSE stereo equipment, cutting-edge kitchen space (including appliances), a comfortable toilet, and much more.

Super C Toy Hauler Motorhomes

If you’re not familiar with Super C Motorhomes, no worries. Many RVers aren’t. Super Cs are, more or less, upgraded class C motorhomes. Picture the rig that would pop out if a Peterbilt semi-truck and a Class C RV had a baby. Not only do they have the space and comfort that’s afforded by most class C motorhomes, but they also feature designs made for hauling toys.

Despite being newer (and much larger) than traditional-class RVs and motorhomes, Super C motorhomes are becoming more and more popular within the RVing community each year.

That said, here are our picks for two of the most fantastic Super C motorhomes currently available on the market.

Last on our list of fantastic motorhomes with toy haulers, but far from the least, is the Renegade Classic with Garage. And, it happens to be one of the most luxurious models of motorhomes that come with toy haulers.

The 35 ft. Renegade Classic with Garage includes a garage unit that measures 9 ft. long and 4 ft. wide. Perfect for toys such as jet skis, bikes, ATVs, and more. In addition, depending on where you purchase your motorhome, these garages can be customized by the dealers to measure as much as 18 ft. long and up to 8 ft. wide. As far as that goes, they are probably the most customizable rig on our list.

As impressive as the appearance and performance of the Renegade Classic with Garage is, the inside is equally tasteful and impressive. The interior comes with Samsung UHD 4K TVs, Bose sound equipment, Blu-ray players, HD satellite, built-in radio, and much more. Also, the kitchen comes with hardwood cabinets, polished countertops, and many modern kitchen appliances.

The rest of the motorhome is just as beautifully designed as the outside, and the living room and kitchen. The master bedroom is equipped with a large and comfy king-size bed and the living area also comes with two sofa beds.

That said, the rest of the decor is expensive and comfortable as well, giving very much the luxurious atmosphere throughout the entire rig. Literally, everything about this motorhome and toy hauler was built to “wow!

Can You Put A Car In A Toy Hauler RV?

Can You Put A Car In A Toy Hauler RV? Toy Hauler Motorhomes

Some toy hauler motorhomes, or toy haulers in general, are capable of taking small cars in the garage space. However, it’s a rare toy hauler that can do much more than the smallest of vehicles.

Even some of those really tiny EV cars are deceptive because though one will fit in the garage space of a large toy hauler, that battery is a lot heavier than the size of the car implies.

How Much Do Toy Hauler Motorhomes Cost?

According to J.D. Power, the cost of toy haulers is anywhere between $20,000 and $100,000. The disparity is pretty large, and some toy hauler motorhomes out there will blow that $100k figure out of the water.

For the most part, expect toy hauler motorhomes to be more expensive than their 5th wheel and standard hitch counterparts. However, with a motorhome, you won’t have to upgrade your vehicle to haul the weight, assuming you have to do so if you choose a trailer toy hauler.

Is A Toy Hauler Motorhome Worth It?

It’s more than worth it if It’s what you want. A motorhome eschews the need for a towing vehicle in favor of a home on wheels, with an engine. Couple that with a garage, and you have a fully-featured house in which you can park your favorite outdoor toys. In other words, your cake is in front of you, and you can eat it whenever you want.

If you’re not used to driving such a massive vehicle, and it’s just not your cup of tea, then none of these are for you. There are some much smaller, pull-behind toy haulers out there that you might cram a dirt bike into. However, if you want to bring your ATV/UTV along for the ride, the hauler will take up some real estate on the hot top.

They’re generally more expensive and the weight may be an issue for some, as it drives differently and increases maintenance needs on the tires and suspension system.

A Final Word About Late Model Used Toy Hauler Motorhomes

Toy hauler motorhomes are far from a dime a dozen. Though the toy hauler market is growing, as is the popularity of these models, the figures are often accidentally deceptive. This is because they mostly lump in motorhomes with travel trailers and 5th wheels when presenting the figures.

The good news is that you don’t have to look far and wide to find a motorhome toy hauler. The handful of variations out there make the selection process pretty easy. With these four used toy hauler motorhomes now on your radar, you’re in a better position to find the perfect one for you and your family.
