When you make the decision to purchase an Airstream trailer you are making a big financial commitment. You need to be ok with spending a large sum of money upfront, as well as be comfortable with being committed to monthly payments on your trailer for a significant amount of time. Because of this, you should also be sure that you consider all Airstream floor plans!
Airstream is the most popular RV and trailer brand in America. They have been around since the 1950s, and in that time, they have built a brand that is even recognizable by people who are not familiar with the industry. When most people think of RVs or trailers, they think of silver trailers made of aluminum. Those trailers that you are picturing are from Airstream. They have built an iconic look that is built to last.
Not everyone wants an RV that they can drive, they want a trailer instead. There are many reasons for that, one of which might be that you are not comfortable with driving such a large vehicle. That is perfectly ok because you can purchase a towable Airstream trailer instead. Airstream has plenty of towable trailers for you to choose from, so you can find the perfect fit.
Do Airstreams Have Slideouts?
The iconic, silver look of the Airstream is by far the most prevailing image in most RVer’s imaginations. An Airstream with a slide-out is a break from tradition and not something you see often. However, there are some out there, believe it or not. For eight years, between 2001 and 2009, Airstream manufactured slide-out options.
However, very few of them actually sold, and the floorplans that included a slide-out option went away. Apparently, the appeal to consumers just wasn’t there. It’s not as if they were faulty—just unpopular.
Today, Airstream does manufacture an RV with a slide-out, but it’s not the classic travel trailer everyone is used to. Instead, it’s a campervan, otherwise known as the Airstream Atlas. Built on the Mercedez Sprinter Chassis, as most campervans are, it offers a single, narrow slide-out on the driver’s side.
8 of the Best Airstream Floor Plans
Airstream has developed countless designs for trailers and RVs over the years. Today they have dozens of different designs available for customers to purchase. If you are looking for a towable Airstream trailer, there are plenty of different floor plans for you to choose from. Here we will look at eight of the best available floor plans.
1. Base Camp
The Base Camp 16 is the smallest Airstream trailer available, at just 16 feet in length. However, that does not mean that it doesn’t have everything you need packed into a small space. It has a bathroom, a kitchen, and a lounge area.
This small Airstream comes with two different floor plans, a 16′ and 20′ option.
You might be concerned about the sleeping arrangements, but the lounge area has a bed that you can pull out at night. This gives you enough space for you and your spouse to sleep.
The trailer also has plenty of room for you to pack essential and luxury items for your trips. It has a 26-inch x 46-inch rear hatch. Inside the hatch, there are 126 inches of available cargo depth. So, if you want to pack a bike, kayak, or fishing gear, you have all the space you need.
This trailer also has an air conditioning unit, heating unit, and hot water. So, no matter the environment and weather, you will be kept comfortable. The trailer also has large wheels and tires to ensure that you can make your way through tough terrain.
- Price: $37,900
- Length: 16 feet
- Weight: 2585 pounds
- Sleeps: 2
2. Nest
Note: The Nest Airstream floor plan was discontinued in late 2020, but you can still find used models for sale on RV marketplaces.
The next Airstream trailer we will be looking at is the Nest. This trailer is the same size as the Base Camp at just 16 feet, and it has many of the same features. There are some slight adjustments you can make to the floor plan as well depending on your preferences. These adjustments mainly relate to the sleeping and dining areas.
You can choose either a fixed bed or a U-shaped dinette that can easily convert into a bed. This is obviously up to personal preference. The fixed bed will make you feel like you are at home as it is the closest to a regular bed. Alternatively, the U-shaped dinette will give you extra space when you are hanging out during the day. However, it will not be quite as comfortable as a regular bed because that is only one of its features. It is also designed to be a couch, so it is harder than the fixed bed.
Regardless of what you choose, you will be provided with a well-equipped kitchen, full onboard restroom, and plenty of storage space. You will be surprised at how many storage locations can be packed into a small trailer. However, once you see the trailer you will realize that you have all the space you need to pack whatever you want.
- Price: $42,900
- Length: 16 feet
- Weight: 3300 pounds
- Sleeps: 2
3. Bambi
For our next Airstream trailer, we will look at the Bambi. Affectionately named after the classic Disney character, this trailer is small and adorable just like the dear. The trailer has a few different sizing options for you. This trailer can be anywhere from 16 to 22 feet with several Airstream floor plans to choose from. The differences in size mostly just result in extra space to move around and a little extra storage. You get all the same major amenities in every size.
In every size of trailer, you will be provided with a dedicated sleeping space, convertible dinette space, a kitchen with all the essentials, and an on-board restroom. Airstream takes pride in using its space efficiently. So, they put all the essentials you need in the trailer, while keeping space for you to move around. You will have everything you need, but you will not feel cramped.
- Price: $49,600 to $58,600
- Length: 16 to 22 feet
- Weight: 3000 to 3900 pounds
- Sleeps: 4
4. Caravel
Moving onto the Airstream Caravel, we have another trailer that has a few sizes for you to choose from. Like with the Bambi, the Airstream Caravel can range from 16 feet to 22 feet with many floor plans.
As a result, you will be able to decide if you need that extra space for people to move around, or are you ok with a small living area? This decision will be impacted by your needs for your trip, but it will also be affected by your budget. If you do not have as much money to spend, you may not want to go with one of the larger options.
Regardless of size, each trailer has similar amenities. The major difference that comes from the size is extra space to move around inside the trailer. The actual amenities you get inside the trailer are basically identical. You will be provided with a dedicated sleeping space, convertible dinette and lounging area, a kitchen will all the amenities, and an on-board restroom.
Furthermore, the Carvel has extra design touches that make the trailer feel more like a home. For example, you get a stainless steel gas stove with cast-iron burners. Not only does this stove look like one you would find in a house, but it also gives you the ability to make a fancy home meal if you would like. That is not something you can do in every trailer.
- Price: $61,900 to $70,900
- Length: 16 to 22 feet
- Weight: 3500 to 4200 pounds
- Sleeps: 4
5. Flying Cloud
Now that we are moving onto the Flying Cloud, we are starting to look at the large Airstream floor plans and trailer options available to you. This trailer can range from 23 to 30 feet, providing you with all the space you will ever need. With the extra space, you also get extra amenities.
Not only will you get the sleeping, dining, and lounging areas, but you will also get a couch to go along with your bed. With a dedicated couch, you will have space for other people to relax in your RV, and not just you and your spouse.
The Flying Cloud is equipped with an incredible amount of storage. There are cabinets all around the interior of the trailer. So, you can store pots, pans, food, clothes, camping gear, fishing equipment, and anything else you can think of in your trailer. The storage spaces are also kept out of the way because most of them are pull-out cabinets. So, you will not need to worry about your living space being smaller to accommodate the extra storage.
Additionally, the trailer is equipped with many of the modern appliances that you need to live a comfortable life. You are given a four-burner gas stove, Baraldi cooking vent, an optional microwave, and a large bowl sink. This will make your cooking experience very enjoyable, and as a result, you will love your living situation as a whole.

One of the best features of the International Serenity is the rear hatch. Usually, Airstream reserves this feature for special addition trailers, but they decided to add it to this one. You can open the hatch to give yourself a beautiful view while eating a meal from inside your trailer. It is especially nice for watching the sunset or sunrise from the comfort of your trailer.
Additionally, the trailer has a beautiful kitchen that will make you feel like you are at home. It has a premium Furion stove, a microwave or convection oven, a refrigerator, and a large stainless steel sink. So, you will have all the tools you need to make yourself a delicious meal.
- Price: $89,900 to $113,400
- Length: 23 to 30 feet
- Weight: 4761 to 6517 pounds

7. Globetrotter
The next Airstream trailer for us to look at is the Globetrotter. This trailer has a variety of Airstream floor plans for you to choose from. Although they are all quite similar, each has something that makes it unique. The biggest differences in the floor plans come from the size. These trailers range from 23 to 30 feet like the previous two trailers we discussed.
This trailer is a modern revival of an old-school Airstream floor plan favorite from the 1960s. This trailer captures the spirit of the original Globetrotter travel trailers. Those original trailers had a European design after owner Wally Byam spent a significant amount of time in Europe. These trailers have the same feel, but they are produced in Jackson Center, Ohio.
Furthermore, the trailer is equipped with all the modern fixtures you need to feel at home. The kitchen has high-end, stainless steel appliances. It also has a Franke faucet which fits perfectly in the modern design.
Finally, this trailer is equipped with everything you need to keep yourself entertained on long rainy days. The trailer provides you with dedicated cooking, dining, lounging, bathroom, and bedroom areas. Each area is luxurious and will have you forgetting that you are out in the woods and not at home.
One of the most exciting features of the Classic is the Smart Control Technology. With this feature, you can monitor all the important features in your trailer from anywhere.
You can turn lights on and off, extend and retract the awning, adjust the air conditioner or heating, and monitor tank and battery levels. All these things can be done from your phone, even when you are away from your trailer.
This trailer also has more storage available to you than any other Airstream trailer. It has large cabinets, wardrobes, and plenty of vanity storage. So, no matter what you want to bring with you, you should have space to store it in an Airstream Classic.
Finally, the trailer is equipped with a residential-style kitchen. With this kitchen you will feel like you are at home. It has a stove, hood, oven, convection microwave, refrigerator, and freezer. Do Any Airstreams Have Bunk Beds?
Airstream definitely has floorplans with bunk beds, some of which are unique in how they are implemented. Most travel trailers with bunk beds feature the model names that end in “BH”, for “bunk house.” Airstream Flying Cloud floorplans, however, go with the “FB” label instead.
“FB” is the acronym for front bed and some models include twin beds up front while others include a queen instead. The Flying Cloud 30FB is one of Airstream’s most extensive options regarding sleep count (8).
Though the 30FB is the largest, the floorplans that include bunkbeds runs down to the smaller, 19FB model. Airstream not only offers bunk bed floorplans in their stateside options but also in their international model layouts.
What’s The Longest Airstream?
Airstream’s longest and largest floorplan is the Airstream Classic 33FB. At 33’ in length, the Classis 33FB is also Airstream’s most luxurious offer. Considering the size of some of the more mammoth travel trailers and fifth-wheels these days, 33’ doesn’t sound all that long.
But Airstream has always had a knack for maximizing interior space, with the 33FB being no exception. One of the longest Airstreams ever made was a 42’ custom build, ordered by Western Pacific Railroad. Built in the 60’s, it’s still on display at the Railroad Museum in Portola, California.
On the consumer side of things, one of the longest Airstreams ever built was the 1980’s era, Airstream Excella Limited, which was 34’7” in length. In 2010, Airstream manufactured a 34’ Airstream Pan America Toy Hauler, which is represented in the movie, The Accountant.
Are Airstream Trailers Worth The Cost?
There’s little doubt that brand recognition is a major component in terms of cost, regardless of the product. This is certainly the case with Airstreams. They’ve been around for a long time, are visually iconic, and haven’t changed much in their design aesthetic over the decades.
Aesthetics aside, whether or not an Airstream is worth the cost is entirely up to the buyer. They generally start around $50k and it’s a steep climb from there. Though they look fantastic, that exterior aluminum dents easily, especially if you get caught in a hail storm of any magnitude.
One of the biggest complaints about Airstreams is the storage, as it’s often less than expected. Obviously, the biggest pro is usually the aesthetic, followed by the aerodynamic profile advantage. In terms of durability, Airstreams are usually well-rated.
