What you need to bring depends on what is included in your RV rental. Peer-to-peer RV rentals like Outdoorsy usually have many items already included because the RV owner also uses the RV. So, most of what you need will be on board.

Some RV owners will provide the delivery and set up for free but most charge a fee for this service. It’s usually in the $100 range.

Pro Tip: try to find an RV rental as close as possible to your campground to keep the fee as low as possible. Maybe you can even talk to the owner and get them to throw it in for free!

When you travel to Memphis, you will probably be uncertain of what to do. Luckily, there are lots of things to do, you just need to know where to look. Here we will look at some of the best things for tourists and RVers to do in the great city of Memphis, Tennessee.

1. Head Off to the Ozarks

The Ozarks are an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. This mostly rustic, ageless panorama summons you to explore the dense forests, big rivers, and deep, clear lakes. You’ll find historic sites and caves, challenging hiking trails, and wildlife. Local towns offer amenities like dining and lodging, from the rustic to the luxurious.

2. Visit the Stax Museum of American Soul Music

Everyone loves music, and a museum dedicated to music sounds like a great place to go. This museum is dedicated to American soul legends. It is home to more than 2000 artifacts. While at the museum you will see Isaac Hayes’ custom Cadillac Eldorado, which was purchased as part of a deal that he renegotiated with the Stax in 1972.

3. Visit the Sun Studio

Keeping with the music theme, you can head to the Sun Studio, a location that is often referred to as the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. While soul music is not for everybody, who does not like rock ‘n’ roll? The former owner of the studio, Sam Phillips, helped launch the careers of many musicians including Elvis, B. B. King, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash.

In recent years, the studio has been used by artists such as Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Justin Townes Earle. While on your guide’s tour, you will hear stories about how famous musicians started their careers and about the songs that they recorded in this location.

4. Go See the Peabody Ducks

If you are more interested in seeing a little bit of wildlife, you should head to The Peabody Memphis. It might sound strange to be told to go to a building in the middle of a city to see wildlife, but this is a location where you can see Peabody Ducks move through the city. These ducks are one of the most popular features in the entire city.

Since the 1940s, these ducks have been a staple feature of the hotel. They will typically visit the hotel around 11 in the morning before making their way to the Peabody Fountain. They usually will stay until 5 P.M., after which they will leave and go back to their home.

5. Visit Graceland

Moving back to the music theme, you should consider visiting Graceland. One of the most famous musicians of all time is Elvis Presley. The king of rock ‘n’ roll once chose Memphis as his kingdom because of the city’s strong musical identity. Graceland is Elvis’s old home, and you have the opportunity how the king lived. You can see his famous jungle room, his pink Cadillac, and even his record collection.

Additionally, you can visit Elvis’s grave as it is located on the Graceland grounds. As you make your way through the tour, you will enjoy audio narration from actor John Stamos.

6. Head to Beale Street

If you are looking to get a real idea of what Memphis is all about, you should head to Beale Street. Beale Street is the heart of Memphis, and it is commonly referred to as the place where the blues was born. This is where many famous musicians got their start.

While you can enjoy seeing the sites, you can also enjoy some of the best restaurants in the city on this street. Many restaurants have music memorabilia for you to see as well. If you want to enjoy the nightlife, there is plenty of that to enjoy as well.

7. Visit the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art

The Belz Museum sits on 24000 square feet of land and is home to more than 1400 objects spread across 5 galleries. Three of the galleries host Asian art, much of which dates all the way back to the Qing Dynasty. The fourth exhibit has contemporary Judaic pieces, and the fifth gallery is a Holocaust Memorial Gallery. Unofficially, the museum is known as the Jade Museum because of its extensive collection of jade sculptures.

8. Head to the Memphis Zoo

We know there have not been a lot of attractions related to nature in Memphis, and that is very important to some RVers. However, they do have a beautiful zoo that features a plethora of different species. There are over 3500 animals that live in the Memphis Zoo.

The zoo sits on over 70 acres of land, but despite its large size, it is incredibly well organized. The sightlines on animals are great, so you do not have to worry about getting to an exhibit and not seeing the animal.

9. Go to the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum

Part of what sets Memphis apart from many other cities is its history. In this museum, you will get a different perspective on the history of Memphis by seeing what life was like for slaves in the Underground Railroad.

The main house of the museum is home to many artifacts that show what life was like in the South during the days of slavery. You can also directly go to the Underground Railroad where you will see secret passages and trap doors that were used to lead slaves to freedom in the North.

10. Visit the Pink Palace Family Museums

If you brought kids with you on your RV trip, you should consider taking a trip to the Pink Palace Family Museums. These museums are in a flamboyant pink mansion, constructed by supermarket tycoon Clarence Saunder. It is dedicated to educating visitors on the history and culture of the area with a variety of exhibits.

Kids will be able to watch the full scale reproduction of the Piggly Wiggly store, and you can even take them to a dinosaur exhibit. There is also a small circus, a planetarium, and an IMAX theatre.

While there are plenty of things to do in Memphis, you will not be enjoying any of these things unless you have a place to stay. 1. Graceland RV Park & Campground

There are many campgrounds in the area, but Graceland RV Park & Campground is the only one that will give you the full Graceland experience. This campground is located right next door to the famous home of Elvis. This makes it a great place to stay for any fans of the king.

When you are not on location, you are close to the city, so you can head to Beale Street to enjoy a meal. Alternatively, you can stay at the campsite and relax with the free Wi-Fi. Additionally, the park is patrolled 24 hours a day by security, so there is no need to worry about any intrusions.  

2. Elvis Presley Boulevard RV Park

Elvis Presley Boulevard RV Park is located just two blocks from Graceland, and it is just a few minutes’ drive away from the main attractions of the city. This is a great campground because of its central location. It also has full hookups and most amenities you will need to stay comfortable.

In the park, there are games for you to play. Additionally, there are full laundry services and security. These amenities should help make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

3. T.O. Fuller State Park

T.O. Fuller State Park is publicly owned and is within the city limits. This makes it a great place to stay for anyone traveling for business or recreation. Unfortunately, there are not a huge amount of amenities available. However, the daily fee is a great deal, making this a great campground for those traveling on a budget.

This campground comes equipped with electric, water, a picnic table, and a firepit. There is also a central dumping location that campers share. Additionally, the bathroom and shower facilities are kept clean and maintained by staff. There is also a playground for kids to mess around on.

4. Agricenter International RV Park

The Agricenter International RV Park offers a unique experience because you will be enjoying authentic country living, but you will only be a few minutes away from downtown. It is next to a farmers’ market, so you will be able to get fresh food every day. This is a great campground for those who are using an RV for the first time and need to get used to RV living.

This is also a great location because there is a beautiful pond on site. So, you can go out, do some fishing, and be home for dinner. This should give you hours of entertainment without needing to set foot in the city.

5. Memphis East Campground

The Memphis East Campground is located in East Memphis and is out in nature. It is also close enough to the highway that travelers can get to the city quickly if they wish. There is also a golf course nearby for you to enjoy if that is your kind of thing.

Furthermore, this campground is located close to the Smokey Mountains. So, if you are a hiker, you can take a drive and enjoy some of the scenic trails in the mountains.

Additionally, this campground is big enough for big rigs and spacious enough so that you do not feel like you are on top of your neighbor. There is also a pool on site so that you can cool off on hot days.

6. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park

The Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is publicly owned and gives visitors a chance to relax in the shade. The park is huge, sitting on more than 15,000 acres of land and water. This gives travelers plenty of room to explore. This includes many portions of the Mississippi River.

The campground comes equipped with water and electricity, and there is a dumping station on site. You can also take a boat out on the river whether you own one or not. There is boat rental available in the campground so that you can head out at any time.

7. Navy Lake

The Navy Lake RV Park is located in the town of Millington. Although this is not directly in Memphis, it is only a short drive away from downtown. It is also a full service park that can accommodate rigs up to 45 feet in length.

As you might have guessed from the name of the campground, it is located on a lake. This makes it a great location for fishing or boating trips. There are also kayak and canoe rentals on site so that you can get some exercise and explore the lake.

8. Fort Pillow State Park
