Where is the Best Place to Rent an RV in NH?

In our opinion the best place to rent an RV is from Outdoorsy. Here’s why:

  • Huge selection of RVs
  • Outstanding Reviews
  • They handle all the paperwork and reservations
  • They handle the deposit
  • They are the most trusted RV rental company
  • Outstanding customer service

In fact, we like them so much we arranged our special discount for our readers and subscribers so you can SAVE up to $100 or more when you rent from Outdoorsy.

For a full explanation about how to rent an RV check out our article called The Ultimate Guide to Renting an RV.

Is It Safe to Rent an RV?

It is very safe to rent an RV. All RV owners have been educated about how to clean their RV per CDC recommendations.

And, RVing and camping, in general, are socially distant activities. We go camping and never get within 100 feet of anyone if we don’t want to. Plus it is very easy to remain socially distant from others while hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities.

What Do I Need to Pack When I Rent an RV?

What you need to bring depends on what is included in your RV rental. Peer to peer RV rentals, like the ones listed on Outdoorsy, usually have many items already included because the RV owner also uses the RV. So, much of what you need will be on board.

However, if you rent from an RV dealership or RV Rental Company, nothing is included. Most likely, you will need to pay for the add on packages and still stop at Walmart to buy things like a coffee pot, a toaster, a grill, etc.

But no matter where you rent, you are responsible for bringing groceries and your own camping supplies.

Do I Need a Special Driver’s License to Rent an RV in NH?

Be sure to ask the RV owner you will be renting from if a special license is required. Typically though, you do not need a special license to drive an RV.

How Do I Rent an RV?

Renting an RV is just like rental a vacation home from VRBO or Airbnb. Here are the simple steps:

1️⃣ Log onto Outdoorsy and enter your destination and dates you want to travel.
2️⃣ Use the filters to narrow down the type of RV and amenities you want.
3️⃣ You can email the owner with any questions
4️⃣ Rent the RV ( if you have any questions just call customer service and they will walk you through it)
5️⃣ Fill in all your info so you can get insured and make your deposit.
6️⃣ Meet the owner to pick up your RV – they will give you an orientation tour!
7️⃣ Have an awesome RV vacation!
8️⃣ Return the RV!

Will I Need a Security Deposit to Rent an RV?

Yes. Keep in mind a refundable deposit is required before allowing anyone to rent an RV. Deposits will vary from camper to camper rental.  This is to give the RV owner security, but you will get a refundable deposit once the rental is returned the way it was when you drove off with it.

Outdoorsy handles all the details of your deposit and payment to ensure you and the owner both have a safe and secure transaction.

Are There One Way RV Rentals in NH?

Yes, there are one way rentals available. Most of the big national rental companies and some RVs on Outdoorsy have them available. However, there is usually a hefty fee involved with this type of rental.

For example, Susan and I inquired about a one way rental from San Francisco to San Diego and the fee was $500. Pretty steep.

Can I Have an RV Rental Delivered to My Campsite and Set Up?

Yes! Absolutely you can!

Say for example you want to rent a towable RV like a travel trailer or 5th wheel but you can’t tow an RV. Well, there are rentals available on Outdoorsy where the owner will deliver their camper right to your campsite, set everything up for you, give you an orientation tour, and then pick it back up at the end of your stay. It just doesn’t get any more convenient than that.

Some RV owners will provide the delivery and set up for free but most charge a fee for this service. It’s usually in the $100 range.

Pro Tip: try to find an RV rental as close as possible to your campground to keep the fee as low as possible. Maybe you can even talk to the owner and get them to throw it in for free!

Are Pets Allowed in RV Rentals in New Hampshire?

Yes and no… some RV owners offer pet friendly rentals and others don’t. I would say 70% of all rentals are pet friendly. You can even use “pet-friendly” as a filter when narrowing down your choices so you only consider them.

When you do a search to find the perfect RV rental for your next trip, use the “more filters” option.  Under this tab you will find the following options:

  • Pet friendly
  • Tailgate friendly
  • Festival friendly
  • Smoking friendly

As you can see, many filter options can be applied when you think you’re ready to take that dream vacation in a rental RV!  Rest assured, when you book your RV rental online with Outdoorsy, you will find delivery options, pet options, and a variety of camper trailer sizes.

Things To Do in New Hampshire

New Hampshire is one of those states that often gets forgotten about. Located in New England, there are many other states in the area that get far more attention from tourists. However, New Hampshire is a beautiful place with lots to do and see.

It has the shortest coastline of all the coastal states at just 18 miles. However, it also has the highest peak in the Northeast. Then when you are in more urban areas there are museums, historic houses, and water parks for you to enjoy. Here are some of the best things to do in New Hampshire.

Check out the best things to do with your RV Rentals New Hampshire!

1. Check Out the Mt. Washington Cog Railway

Mt Washington Cog Railway NH

Mt. Washington can be a difficult mountain to explore, but there is an easy way to get to the top, and that is on the Cog Railway. The Cog Railway has been carrying visitors to the top of Mt. Washington ever since it opened in 1869. When you get to the top, on a clear day you will have a beautiful view of four states. On a cloudy day, you will be able to look down on the clouds.

Additionally, when you get to the top you can check out the Sherman Adams Visitors Center, a small museum with a cafeteria for you to have a quick meal before your descent. Up there you will also find the Mount Washington Observatory, a research station that studies extreme weather conditions. In 1934 the wind speed world record was recorded here.

2. Go to Strawbery Banke

Another great place to visit is Strawbery Banke, the first settlement of what is now Portsmouth. Built in 1623, this settlement sits on 10 acres of land and is now a museum that houses restored artifacts from past centuries. However, some of the buildings still resemble what they looked like almost 400 years ago. So, when you come here it will be like going through a time machine as you travel back to the 1600s.

3. Take a Ride on the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

The Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway was built in 1938 and was the first aerial tramway in North America. Still functional today, you can take a ride on the tramway as it carries you up to the 4080 foot summit above Franconia Notch. On clear days you will have a view of the Presidential Range and mountains in Vermont, New York, and even Canada.

Once you are done admiring the stunning view, you can take a short walk down the Rim Trail to the observation tower for an even better view. Other things for you to see include the Flume Gorge, an 800 foot long crack at the base of Mount Liberty.

4. Climb to the Top of Mt. Monadnock

New Hampshire might not be the most well traveled state in the country, but it is very popular among hikers and climbers. Mt. Monadnock is the world’s most climbed mountain. It owes its popularity to a few factors. Firstly, it is a climb that you can easily make in a day. Secondly, there are several paths to the top, all of which have different difficulty levels. Finally, the mountain is an easy day trip to make if you live or are staying in Boston.

This mountain is interesting because it stands alone. Most mountains are a part of a large mountain range, but not this one. As a result, you get a tremendous view of the area that is unobscured by other high rising mountains when you get to the top.

5. Go to the North Conway and Mt. Washington Valley Ski Resorts

One of the biggest reasons people come to New Hampshire is for the skiing. The area gets very cold in the winter, and as a result, it has a tremendous skiing season. North Conway and Mt. Washington Valley Ski Resorts are the two best places to go skiing in New Hampshire. While you are here you will be able to enjoy downhill and cross country skiing, as well as snowshoeing, sledding, dog sledding, and ice skating.

However, these are four season resorts, so you can come in the summer as well. If you are coming when it is hot outside, you will have plenty of hiking trails to explore. Additionally, there will be long zip lines available for you to use. If you have never experienced zip lining high above the ground in the mountains, you need to give it a try.

6. Visit Hampton Beach

New Hampshire might have the shortest shoreline of all the coastal states in the United States, but that does not mean that it is void of excellent beaches. Hampton Beach is one of the most popular family beach resorts in New England, and it has been this popular for generations.

Part of what makes it so popular is not the beach, it is the presence of the local casino. The Hampton Beach Casino has been in place since 1899, and it is a great place to have some fun and listen to some live music.

However, if you prefer a more relaxing night out, you can go to the beach and watch a movie. Movie showings happen on the beach every week like a drive thru. There are also several fireworks showings throughout the year.

7. Enjoy the Fall Foliage

Fall foliage new hampshire

When people think of places that have four seasons, they think of the downside of having cold winters. However, most people do not realize what they are missing in the fall. New Hampshire is most beautiful in September and October when the leaves turn orange, red, and yellow. Almost any road you go down will give you a tremendous view of the trees as they change color.

8. Go to Lake Winnipesaukee

Lake Winnipesaukee is another excellent place to visit while you are in New Hampshire. Here you can go fishing, swimming, or you can just have fun on your boat. It is a focal point for New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. As a result, there are several events that take place here throughout the year as people flock to the area in droves during the summer.

9. Check Out the Lost River Gorge

During the Ice Ages, the world was much colder and glaciers moved across landmasses, carving their way through the rock. During the last Ice Age, glaciers covered the White Mountains with a mile high sheet of ice. When the glaciers melted and receded, a combination of meltwater and moving ice carved deep potholes in the granite and knocked giant boulders loose. All these things combined formed this natural wonder.

The Lost River now disappears into the caves formed by these glaciers. When you come to the area you will have the opportunity to explore the caves and make your way through narrow passageways.

10. Go to Clark’s Trading Post

Clark’s Trading Post has been entertaining visiting families for more than 50 years. When you come to this area you will get to watch animals ride scooters, shoot basketballs, and balance on barrels. While you are watching you will notice that the bears love performing for the audience and they are very receptive to applause.
