There are three kinds of washers and dryers most often used by RVers. They are:

Each of these options has its pros and cons. There are two variations for each of the three types.

First, we will take a look at the two variations. These two variations are vented and non-vented.

Vented Washers and Dryers for RVs and Campers

Vented washers and dryers use the air in the room to dry clothes. These types of RV washers and dryers will require an air exhaust vent in your RV.

Non-Vented Washers and Dryers for RVs and Campers

Ventless RV washers/dryers heat the air inside the drum to dry the clothes. They do a pretty good job, but experienced RVers generally try to avoid these types of RV washers and dryers.

They use a lot of water, and the drying cycle can take a long time. However, if a non-vented washer/dryer is what fits in your RV, they will undoubtedly do the job.

Can You Add A Washer And Dryer To An RV That Doesn’t Have Them?

If they have the hookups available, you certainly can. However, you have to be careful to choose the right ones, preferably a washer and dryer designed for RV use. The reason is space and weight.

Some of these RVs are limited in their carrying capacity and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can approach the limit. It’s often best to stick with an RV variation and keep things small, especially if you have a small family or are a couple.

If your RV didn’t come with hookups adding a washer and dryer will be much more difficult. Aside from having a place for them, you will need electrical and plumbing installed.

While it’s not impossible, it certainly isn’t a common renovation to make.
