When the weather cools down, few things are better than cozying up to the fireplace at home. But what about when things get cold and you’re in your RV? Great news: RVs with fireplaces are a thing!

RVs with fireplaces are becoming increasingly common and provide the perfect way to stay warm and cozy in your RV while adding a touch of ambiance.

Mike and Susan, the owners of RVBlogger, love the fireplace in their RV so in this article, we’ll take a closer look at RV fireplaces. And we will provide you with 10 great RVs with fireplaces you’ll love.

Do RVs Come With Fireplaces?

RVs with fireplaces have become increasingly common over the past several years. While it’s still far from universal, it’s not hard at all to find a great RV with a fireplace. In many cases where a fireplace isn’t included as standard, it’s available as an optional add-on.

RV fireplaces aren’t like your fireplaces at home, of course. Instead, they create a fake fire and/or burning coal effect to recreate the ambiance of a traditional fireplace. In some cases, they may be purely decoration, but in most cases, they’re also electric heaters.

RV fireplaces are the perfect thing to add a cozy, homey feel to your RV. Plus, they’re a great source of heat when things get cold. They’re ideal for cozying up to the fire and enjoying some hot cocoa on a cold day.

Can You Add A Fireplace To Your RV?

If your RV doesn’t have a fireplace, it is possible to add one, although it can be a bit complicated.

The first consideration is if you have space to add a fireplace insert somewhere in your RV. On top of this, you’ll also need to wire the fireplace to a power source.

The easiest way to install a fireplace in your RV is by replacing a TV. This will give you enough space for the fireplace and will have preexisting wiring to power it as well.

Fireplace inserts are widely available and pretty reasonably priced so if your RV didn’t come with a fireplace don’t fret.

Are RV Fireplaces Gas Or Electric?

RV fireplaces are always electric, and for good reason. A gas fireplace would require significant ventilation that’s not typically found in an RV. Combine that with the generally small space inside an RV, and you put yourself at risk of carbon monoxide exposure.

Electric fireplaces, meanwhile, have no such problem. They produce no significant emissions, so there’s no risk of carbon monoxide or need for ventilation. On top of this, electric fireplaces are cheaper than gas and have a much lower fire risk.

Is It Safe To Use Space Heaters In Your RV?

Is It Safe To Use Space Heaters In Your RV?

If you don’t have an RV with a fireplace, one possible alternative is a space heater. But is it safe to use a space heater in your RV?

Broadly speaking, yes, it is safe. But just like when you use a space heater at home, you’ll have to take some precautions.

You should never leave a space heater running unattended. While the risk is small, if the device overheats, tips, or short circuits, it could cause a fire. And if you’re not around to deal with it when it happens, this fire can quickly grow, potentially even consuming your RV.

To mitigate this, you should only run a space heater while you’re in the room with it. It’s also smart to get a space heater with safety features like auto shut-off if the heater tips or overheats.

Most space heaters are electric, but there are also fuel-based space heaters on the market, like the Buddy brand of heaters.

While it is possible to use these kinds of space heaters in your RV, you’ll need to take precautions. You’ll need to ensure good airflow by cracking a window or door, and it’s highly recommended to have a CO detector when in use.

  1. My Flagstaff SuperLite and its Rockwood twin also have standard fireplaces. At 29’ 8”, it is a large front-kitchen dream of a travel trailer for a couple with or without a grandchild or two. We love its coziness, large wardrobe, dinette, and full-length awning among other great features!
