What Is an RV Club for Seniors or Retirees?
RV clubs are organizations that help RVers save money on camping fees, supplies, and products. However, that is just the baseline as many RV clubs for seniors will provide other discounts like road service, mail forwarding, and even insurance.
It is important to note that while we are referring to some of the best RV clubs for seniors, most of these clubs are not exclusively for seniors. Instead, they are available to everyone, but they are especially valuable to seniors.
Are There Senior-Only RV Parks?
Absolutely; in fact senior-only RV parks are very common. Typically known as “55+ RV parks,” they can be found across the country thanks to the popularity of RVing with seniors. They’re especially common in retiree-heavy areas like Florida and Arizona.
55+ RV parks offer plenty of benefits:
- They usually have great amenities, including pools, pickleball, and tennis
- They offer events and meeting spaces specifically tailored to seniors
- They’re a great place to meet other people your age
- They’re quieter and more relaxed
55+ RV parks are great for seniors looking for a tranquil park with people of a similar age and energy level. You can find 55+ RV parks with tools like RV Life Campgrounds, which lets you search specifically for 55+ RV parks across the US and Canada.
Is RVing Safe For Seniors?
Wondering if RVing is safe for seniors? The answer: Absolutely—Tons of seniors do it. The biggest risks are on the road; at your campsite, you have little to nothing to worry about except a bad neighbor. However, there are a few things you can do to make RVing safer:
- Always inspect your RV before hitting the road to ensure everything is in tip top shape and avoid accidents and breakdowns
- Avoid driving for too long, which can make you tired and increase the chances of unsafe driving.
- Consider adding a handrail and/or extra step to your entryway to reduce the chances of falls
- Plan ahead and consider traveling in loops to make doctor’s appointments and get medications
Which RV Club Should You Join?
That question is unfortunately not as simple as you might think. There are several factors that go into determining which RV club you should join. There are several excellent RV clubs for seniors, so other factors will determine which is best for you individually.
The cost will play a big factor in which RV club you choose. Prices can be as low as $30, and they can get as high as $500. As a result, you will need to set aside a budget for your RV clubs for seniors before you start your first trip.
The 10 Best RV Clubs for Seniors
Finding the best RV clubs for seniors can be difficult. To help you with this process we will be looking at many of the best options for you. We will look at the pros and cons of each club, and we will take a look at what they offer and for what price. Here are 10 of the best RV clubs for seniors.
1. Good Sam Club
The Good Sam Club is one of the most popular RV clubs for seniors. It has more than two million members and excellent benefits. However, before we get into the benefits, we need to praise the price. The cost of membership is just $29 a year. You will not find many better offers than that.
Good Sam provides a 10 percent discount at all of their partner campgrounds and RV parks. This includes more than 2,400 eligible properties nationwide, which means Good Sam’s has the largest network of all the RV clubs in the country.
Additionally, you will receive savings on gas and diesel at Pilot Flying J locations, emergency towing, and roadside assistance for all your vehicles, up to 10 percent off at Camping World & Gander Outdoors retail stores, free shipping orders from those two stores, and Overton’s, a 15 percent discount on propane, and many other discounts. With all these benefits, paying less than a dollar a day seems very reasonable.
2. Family Campers and RVers
Family Campers and RVers is one of the more unique RV clubs for seniors. It is a member-owned nonprofit that has annual group campventions, regional campouts, and state campouts. They have programs that help retirees, adults, teens, and kids. There are even disaster awareness training and safety training courses for you to educate yourself. The membership costs $35 a year for US citizens and $45 per year for Canadian citizens.
3. Passport America
Passport America is one of the most well-known RV clubs in the country. It should be no surprise to hear that it is also one of the best RV clubs for seniors. While Good Sam might provide a wider range of discounts than Passport America, Passport America provides larger discounts.
You can receive up to a 50 percent discount at nearly 1,800 eligible campgrounds and RV parks across the United States. Membership is just $44 a year, so it can literally pay for itself if you use it just one or two times a year and we use it much more often than that!
You can use their website or mobile app to find participating campgrounds to plan your trip. You should also note that some of these campgrounds are located in Canada and Mexico, so you can enjoy some international travel, as well. Additionally, you will find pricing and amenities for each available campground on their website.
One common complaint Passport America members have is that the campgrounds eligible for discounts are not always the most desirable options. However, that should not be a surprise since you are receiving a 50 percent discount. Additionally, with there being nearly 1,800 campgrounds, there are certainly some excellent RV parks in the mix.
4. Escapees RV Club
Another one of the best RV clubs for seniors is Escapees RV Club. Escapees provides discounts like the two previous options, but they put a lot of emphasis on their community. This is an RV club that benefits seniors the most, thanks to the many events and activities that are hosted throughout the year.
They organize several rallies throughout the year which are great networking opportunities. Since they happen weekly, they benefit people who are on the road a lot the most.
Furthermore, you will have access to roadside assistance, ongoing educational courses, RV training programs, an online job board, and a virtual mailbox when you join Escapees RV Club. A membership is just $39.95 a year, and it gets you 15 to 50 percent discounts at more than 800 RV parks around the country.
5. Boondockers Welcome
Boondockers Welcome is one of the more specialized RV clubs for seniors. It caters to a specific kind of RV traveler. If you were not aware, boondocking means RV camping without any water, electrical, or sewer hookups. It is off-the-grid RVing. So, if you are interested in completely self-sufficient RV trips, this is a great club for you.
Boondockers Welcome provides connections between private landowners and RVers. The landowners will offer free overnight parking for RVers. You will spend the night on their land, share stories, and save money. However, since it is free, you are expected not to overstay your welcome. Many landowners only expect you to stay one night, and you should almost never stay for more than three nights.
To get a membership with Boondockers Welcome you only need to pay $30 a year. So, it should pay for itself within one or two nights of use. Additionally, this is a great way to meet friends as you will have one one-on-one time with the property owners.
We love Boondockers Welcome because of this little-known secret: over 75% of Boondocker Welcome locations have an electrical hookup! And many offer water and electricity. This is one of our favorite memberships!
6. Family Motor Coach Association
Another outstanding RV club for seniors is the Family Motor Coach Association, or FMCA for short. With a membership, you will receive several benefits including FMCAssist, a program that automatically covers its members in emergencies.
You will also get access to the Family RVing Magazine, and FMCA University. The magazine is released monthly with information and news that is helpful for RVers. The university has decades of archives of useful information for RVers.
With your membership, you will be able to stay at an FMCA campground for free two nights a month. You will also receive an anti-theft decal and FMCA membership plate in your new member kit. So, you can display your membership with pride.
One of the biggest benefits of joining FMCA is that you get access to the mobile app. The app helps you plan your trips with ease, showing you the best places to stay on your route. You can then book your campsites directly from the app. Reserving campsites can be frustrating under normal circumstances, but with this app, it is very easy.
When you decide to become a member, you can get a one-year, two-year, or three-year membership. They cost $85, $160, and $225, respectively. Renewal pricing is $75, $145, and $205, respectively. Finally, there is a $10 initiation fee you need to pay.
7. Harvest Hosts
Harvest Hosts is a lot like Boondockers Welcome in that it offers free overnight stays to RVers who are looking to stay off the grid. However, as the name suggests, you will be staying at wineries, breweries, distilleries, and farms with this RV club.
To get a membership, you need to pay $79 a year. This is a little higher than the previous options, but it will still pay for itself very quickly. Additionally, since you get to stay at interesting and gorgeous locations, you are paying for new experiences as well as a place to stay for the night. Finally, you can get a $20 upgrade that gives you access to over 300 golf courses around the country.
8. KOA Value Kard Rewards
KOA is the oldest campground network in the industry. It is known for its family-focused parks close to nearly every metropolitan area in the United States. This makes it one of the best RV clubs for seniors because you can get a place to stay near where your relatives live. You can get a place just outside the city and visit your relatives in any city in the country.
Unfortunately, KOA campgrounds are usually expensive, but this is because they are among the highest-quality parks in the country. However, when you join this RV club you will receive a 10 percent discount. This is not a lot, so it may take a while to pay itself unless you are exclusively staying at KOA campgrounds. That being said, it is only $30 a year, so it is not expensive at all.
9. Thousand Trails
Thousand Trails is an interesting RV club because it has a different pricing model compared to the other RV clubs for seniors. Instead of a small annual fee for discounted rates, they ask for a significant investment in exchange for free parking at their parks all year. At a minimum, it costs $575, so it is a very significant investment. However, if you are traveling a lot, it will more than pay for itself by the end of the year.
Since this club is so expensive, it is only a good option for people who are living on the road. That is why it is one of the best RV clubs for seniors. Seniors do not need to work, so they can spend all their time traveling the country. As a result, they get great value from this RV club.
10. RoverPass Unlimited
RoverPass Unlimited is one of the newest RV clubs for seniors on the market. It is a great option for RV renters and full-time RVers. With the pass, you will earn free booking through their reservation software with over 6000 campgrounds across the United States. This makes them very popular among RV renters who are not familiar with the process of reserving a campground.
Additionally, a membership comes with priority customer service in the form of travel agents. They will make your reservations and answer any questions you might have. You can get this pass for either a month or a year. The monthly pass is $30, and the annual pass is $50.
Benefits Of Joining An RV Club For Seniors
There are many clubs out there for RVers, and joining one can have plenty of benefits for seniors:
- They help you meet other like-minded RVers
- They give you access to discounts, such as reduced rates at campgrounds
- They can help you decide on your next destination with handy guides
- Some provide 24/7 assistance or advice for RVers
- Some clubs provide breakdown services, such as towing and jump starts
Even with all these benefits, RV clubs are usually fairly affordable; most cost less than $50 a year. Due to this, whether or not to join an RV club for seniors is an easy choice to make, and we highly recommend it.

looking for a generator that will run two air conditioner on our new to us 41 foot 5th wheel. I have back problems so not sure what to do. maybe put it in the truck.
I need a name of some good ones. any advice would be appreciated.
I’d suggest two 2200i Honda generators. You can hook them together to make 3600watts of continuos power. Check your AC units to make sure the total they draw is equal to or under that. I have 2- 11K BTU ACs. The advantage to two gensets is if you only need one AC unit running then you could run it off one generator. It would save a lot of the cost of your gas, and the Hondas are good for about 2000 hours before they need servicing. That’s what this old boondocker would do.
West Coast! Bring those cute accents out West! We promise to share! Its kinda biggish out here!
