I always thought I’d have to buy a really big RV if I wanted a washer and dryer in my RV. But even as I was revising this article, Susan said we had just received a message from a YouTube subscriber asking if we knew of a travel trailer under 3,500 lbs with a washer and dryer.
While really small RVs don’t have room for a washer and dryer, there are some surprisingly small RVs that offer this feature.
So, we looked into it and put together our list of the smallest RVs with a washer and dryer.
For many, an RV with a washer and dryer would make for a very happy camper. Sadly, we can’t ask Alexa or Google to run that search for us. Luckily, we regularly attend RV Shows and visit dealerships all across the country so we are in the know!
Are Small RVs With a Washer and Dryer Common?
Many folks don’t wish to give up their at-home conveniences while on the road. We all know that RVs come in all sorts of shapes, and sizes and have amenities from bare-bone basics to extreme glamping.
While not all RVs come with a washer and dryer you do have options. Some higher-end models will have a washer and dryer installed. Other models will come with the hookups for a washer and dryer so you can buy them if or when you need them.
You don’t have to “think big” to enjoy the luxury of laundering at home. We’ve found several “smallish” RVs that might surprise you.

Types of RV Washers and Dryers in Small RVs
There are 3 types of washers and dryers used in RVs: (1)
Dryers are vented or non-vented. Since vented dryers are more efficient, we recommend installing a vented dryer in your RV. The vented dryer will take air from the room, heat it, and then exhaust it outside. Ensure an exhaust vent is in place or installed behind the dryer.
The non-vented dryers take longer for laundry to dry, thereby, unnecessarily heating up your RV and allowing your AC to work overtime. The steam that is condensed within the dryer will be pumped into the RV’s drain and holding tank.
The stackable washer and dryer are used more in larger RVs and are similar to the ones used in homes. The stackable units for RVs will be a bit smaller and lighter. They will use the most water of the three listed above, and having access to a sewer hook-up is advisable.
If you have the space and travel frequently, a stackable washer/dryer will enable you to do a larger load of laundry. And simultaneously dry while another load is washing.
The washer/dryer combo is catching on and is a preferred choice with many RVers. This appliance takes up less space and actually uses just one drum to wash and dry your laundry. The machine will automatically switch to the drying cycle once the washing cycle has finished. This combo uses less water than the stackable versions. However, having access to a water hookup is a necessity.
Keep in mind you should avoid overloading a washer/dryer combo. It will be necessary to do smaller loads so the machine will work properly and efficiently. Depending on load size, a washing and drying cycle can take 2 to 3 hours. The good news is that you can set it and forget it. Your clothing will be washed, dried, and ready for folding when you come back to check on it.
Portable washers are the perfect solution for those who boondock or RV without the luxury of washer/dryer hookups in their camper. Some require electricity; others do not. However, you will need a water supply, so having a faucet nearby comes in handy. A load can be completed in under 15 minutes. They are perfect for small loads and occasional use.
Many portable dryers have multiple features, such as heating options and a damp sensor to remove moisture from your clothes. It should be noted that most units can only dry a small amount of laundry at one time.
Many portable washers and dryers use manual operation to work, are good for occasional use, and are compact and affordable. These can be easily found on sites such as Amazon.
Do I Need 220V Power to Run a Dryer in an RV?
There are small-capacity dryers available that run on a 110V system for RVs. However, a 220V dryer will work only if you have a 50-amp service supply. And your RV will need to be prepped with the proper 220V receptacle to plug into.
When adding a washer or dryer, always check with your RV manufacturer to ensure the model you choose is compatible with your RV’s electrical system. Many manufacturers discourage the use of a 220V dryer due to power limitations.
It may be beneficial to carry a voltmeter with you that will plug into one of the outlets. Supply and demand enter the picture when it comes to campground electricity, which can vary depending on the time of day and the number of RVs.
You can keep a check on the voltmeter and save yourself repairs to your RV appliances. Voltage below 105 or above 135 can damage electronic equipment and appliances. Do yourself a favor and wait to use your washer/dryer during a time when voltage is at an acceptable level.
Should I Buy an Extended Warranty for My RV?
Yes—but not from a dealership! Unfortunately, your odds of suffering a major mechanical breakdown go up with every passing year. According to RV Warranty claims records, more than three out of every ten RVs will need major repairs in only their second year on the road.
This skyrockets to 8 out of 10 in their fifth year and virtually ALL of them in their eighth year! Today’s RVs are increasingly more complex, and with more things going wrong, the need to protect your investment is more important than ever.
Our RV Warranty plans allow you to change your mind! If you want to sell your RV to a private party, you can transfer the policy to the new owner. Additionally, if you are trading in your RV, or getting out of RVing altogether, you can cancel your policy for a pro-rated refund.
We bought a warranty through Wholesale Warranties for several reasons:
- We can cancel the warranty at any time and get a pro-rated refund
- We can transfer the warranty to the new owner if we decide to sell our RV
- There are no mileage caps on our policy
- We can use repair shops all across the country
- We can use a mobile repair company right at our campsite
- The price is way better than most dealerships
- We could finance the cost of the warranty
- With parts and labor prices increasing all the time, we have peace of mind
You owe it to yourself to at least check out a warranty and get a free quote to see if it is right for you. It just takes a few minutes and you will learn a ton about protecting your investment. We only recommend products we use ourselves and we highly recommend you get a free quote from Wholesale Warranties.
Final Words About Small RVs With a Washer and Dryer
Many RVs do not have a washer and dryer and people get along fine without them. For the occasional weekend trip, our summer vacation using campground laundry mats isn’t a big deal.
However, for full-timers or anyone going on longer road trips RVs with a washer and dryer can be a game changer. Adding them to an RV that is not prepped for them can be a big challenge. So, if you think you may want a washer and dryer in the future look for an RV with hookups.

Thanks for the write-up, needed this as I journey on alone. Just a correction, the Montana High Country 295 is 34 ft, their new 281k is 32 ft and has the same washer dryer hookup as the 295 (same spot).
I have a fifth wheel with a really good washer and dryer. We recently spent 3 months living in our motorhome while we sold and bought a house. We have 2 adults, 2 dogs and a cat. And a ton of laundry everyday. Ours is not the combo, it’s a washer and dryer. I love them!!! They kept up with our needs, would never travel without them. We have the Ariston, and they rocked!
Thanks for the info Wanda!
